DIRECTIONS
Cut a pocket from jeans. Set aside.
Measure tablet, adding 3 in. to width and length. Trace measurement onto piece of paper and cut out.
Cut 2 pieces of denim to template size. Cut 2 pieces of floral fabric to size. Cut 1 piece of elastic the same length as template. Set aside. Double the width of template and create a second template with new width and original length. Cut 1 piece of floral fabric to this size. Cut a 3½-in.-wide strip of floral fabric the same length as denim pieces.
Using heavy-duty thread, sew the floral strip to each denim piece (so floral fabric is in the middle of the 2 pieces of denim), using a ½-in. seam along its long edges.
Center tablet on 1 of the smaller pieces of floral fabric. Cut 4 new lengths of elastic long enough to extend on a diagonal across each corner of tablet, about 7 in., depending on size of the tablet. Pin in place. Using coordinating thread, sew elastic pieces in place across each corner. Fold over and sew a ¼-in. hem along 1 long edge of each smaller piece of fabric. The elastic on that edge will fold over as well.
Spread large piece of floral fabric on a work surface, right side up. Arrange both smaller pieces of floral fabric on top, also right side up, with hemmed edges facing one another toward the middle. (There will be a gap in the middle between smaller floral pieces.) Place the piece with 4 elastic corners on right side. Pin in place and sew around the entire edge with a ¼-in. seam.
Trim denim piece to same size as floral piece, centering
floral strip as you trim. Pin pocket on right-hand denim panel and sew on 3 sides with heavy-duty thread, leaving top open. Pin long piece of elastic on left-hand denim panel, about 2 in. from edge.
Place denim piece and floral piece on top of one another, wrong sides facing each other. The 2 sides with elastic should be together. Pin the layers together and sew perimeter with a ½-in. seam, leaving a 4-in. hole on one side. Turn piece inside out, and hand-sew the gap closed.
Cut 2 pieces of thick cardboard to fit into inner pockets of tablet cover. Insert tablet into diagonal elastics. Use external elastic to keep cover closed when not in use.
