Q: What is your favorite holiday ornament?

-

I remember looking at my grandparents’ Christmas tree, admiring the ornaments. A little angel always stood out to me.

She was so beautiful. I was lucky to get that little angel after my grandparents passed away. My most prized ornament, she has seen so many Christmases—every one in my life, and I am 63. CONNIE GARRISON LA PORTE, INDIANA

Since my first little boy was born seven years ago, we have collected holiday ornaments from wherever we went. Now we have two boys who never let us forget at every gift store we come to—which turns out to be a lot because who doesn’t love a good vacation souvenir? I quickly realized we were going to need a separate tree, so we started our travel tree tradition. It’s so fun to remember the old trips and to see what new ones get hung up each year. Nearly 40 years ago, my 3-year-old daughter made an ornament from a canning jar lid. It had lace embellishments and a little tree and a deer. When she got married, I gave it to her. Her Labrador retriever puppy, Augie, picked it off their tree that year to use as a chew toy. It was dented with tooth marks, missing its tree, and the lace was covered in slobber when my daughter brought it to me in a plastic bag. The deer was hanging on for dear life. With glue and clothespins, I reassembled it. I’m keeping it for now because I love to think about the story each year. KAREN BREY VALPARAISO, NEBRASKA

This German ornament makes us smile. My husband, Chris, and I attended the Christkindlmarket in Chicago a few years ago. This ornament touched our hearts when we saw it then, and it still does to this day. GLORIA HENDERSON BLOOMINGTON, ILLINOIS
