Q: What’s your best tip for making light work of laundry day?
Because of my constantly changing work schedule, I don’t have a set routine at home. Before, when I got a chance to hang my laundry on the clothesline to dry, I’d often come home from work, go inside, and forget I had laundry out—until it was already wet again from the evening dew. Now I clip a clothespin on my screen door handle to remind me the moment I get home. Works like a charm!

As a collector of T-shirts, I loved this tip from a professional organizer who spoke at one of my club meetings a few years ago. I used to fold my tees in the same way stores do, then stacked one on top of the other in a drawer. But then you have to look through each stack. Now, after folding them the same way, I fold each in half again and arrange the shirts with the fold facing up in the drawer. This way I can place more shirts into the drawer, plus I can see the design of each shirt at a glance and recognize the one I am looking for. It saves space and time, and the drawer always looks neat.

Tired of wrangling my sheets trying to find which two corners go on which side of the bed, I decided to grab my nail polish and paint two of the matching seams. Next time I changed sheets, I placed those painted corners in the front and, voila! No more wrestling with my sheets.
