From the Editor
LAST FALL I had a Friday afternoon ritual. At the end of the day I checked my email inbox for a note from my son’s teacher. She told us about all the fun the children had, the special projects they did or when they earned a pajama day. Sometimes she let us know when things didn’t go as planned, like the time some of her students got a little too rowdy during an assembly. I guess making silly faces was a lot more fun than listening to the principal speak. Her notes kept me connected to the classroom in the same way that your letters connect me to all of you. I love reading your reactions to the stories in this magazine. On page 8, we’ve brought back the Mailbox so we can share your letters with fellow readers. So if you think Hilda Redwing (page 54) is as amazing as I do, tell us. Or if Felicia Schneiderhan’s story about Michigan’s Porcupine Mountains (page 38) inspires you to visit, send us a few lines and a photo. You’ll find all the details on page 8. Until then, have a happy fall and a blessed Thanksgiving.
