Mohonk Preserve Trail
I hiked the Mohonk Preserve Huguenot trail on a sunny fall day up through the Labyrinth and Lemon Squeeze, a challenging maze of boulders, wooden ladders and narrow crevices.
After crawling and climbing this hour-long trail, hikers are rewarded with sweeping views of the Catskill Mountains. Albeit strenuous, this trail is a must-hike due to the scenic views offered at Sky Top Lookout. I recommend visiting in late September or early October to see spectacular fall foliage.
PLAN AHEAD
The visitor center and immediate area, which includes three short and easy hikes, are free, but to hike beyond that you must purchase a $15 day pass. A $20 pass allows you to bike 30 miles of carriage roads that also link to bike routes in adjacent Minnewaska State Park Preserve. mohonkpreserve.org
PLAY AND STAY
Pamper yourself by booking a room at the Mohonk Mountain House, a National Historic Landmark resort built in 1869. Hike, hit the spa in this Victorian castle or splash in the pool, then dine in the lovely on-site restaurant with views of the Catskill Mountains. mohonk.com
