Laurel Highlands
Ohiopyle State Park, located in Pennsylvania’s
Laurel Highlands, is a gem that not many people outside of the area know about. Popular with whitewater rafters and kayakers, it also has hiking and biking trails. Cucumber Falls, just a short, beautiful walk from the road, is one of its better known waterfalls and is most alluring in the spring when the mountain laurel are blooming or in autumn for color. After a series of rainstorms, the rushing water stands out in the glen’s darkness, in direct contrast to the colorful leaves surrounding it.
WATERFALL HIKE
Hike the less-frequented Jonathan Run Trail to see the Jonathan Run Falls (actually a pair of falls 1/3-mile apart) with side excursions to Sugar Run and Fechter falls.
RAIL TRAIL
Bike for 17 miles through the Laurel Highlands on part of the 150-mile Great Allegheny Passage.
SWEET TREAT
