FRENCH BROAD OUTPOST RANCH

-

THE OLD WEST IS ALIVE and well in the East too! In the Cherokee National Forest in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, the family-run French Broad Outpost Ranch feels remote, but is within a five-hour drive from Charlotte, Atlanta or Nashville.

Activities include horseback riding, cattle drives, team penning, supper rides, live music and square dancing. You can learn about horses and horse safety here—how to groom and saddle them, for example—and are not just thrown on a horse and told to pull back or kick. Guests can ride one of the ranch’s beautiful purebred Arabian steeds.

For accommodations, guests stay in one of seven rooms in the on-site Lone Star Hotel, an example of 19th-century timber-frame architecture. Meals are served family style, and the hotel features a saloon, a game room and a collection of relaxing rocking chairs. frenchbroadduderanch.com
