What the brewer says

“Cut from a sim­i­lar recipe, this bar­rel-aged quad evolves and shows a dif­fer­ent face each year. It has a full body and lush tex­ture with bar­rel ex­pres­sion all over: toasted oak, co­conut, leather, and rich cigar tobacco.”

What our panel thought

Aroma: “Whiskey, vanilla, oak, and leather with ba­nana. There’s un­der­ly­ing toast and choco­late. Plum and raisin be­hind all of that. Toasty malt notes.” Fla­vor: “Big fla­vor with a ton of vanilla, then caramel, tof­fee, and dark fruit. Al­most cake-like sweet­ness bal­anced a bit by mod­er­ate bit­ter­ness and al­co­hol, but some of the sweet­ness lingers. There’s mod­er­ate al­co­hol warmth.” Over­all: “The vanilla-for­ward char­ac­ter with the more sub­tle malt and fruit is like­able. Nice notes of leather and vanilla with oak come through, but some will find that this one finishes and car­ries a bit sweet and hot through­out.”
