What the brewer says

“German Kölsch.”

What our panel thought

Aroma: “Grainy Pilsner malt, crisp noble hops, peppercorn and citrus plus a lager-like character make this a beer begging to be tasted.” Flavor: “Simple base malt backbone. Floral, soapy, and slightly citrus-hops flavors. Slightly peppery and spicy. Moderate carbonation enhances a crisp effervescence and pronounced bitterness with a slightly sweet finish. It hits most of the notes in safe and expected ways, but there’s just a hint of clash between the resinous woodier elements of the hops and the ester component.” Overall: “The crisp finish, lightly fruity ester character is in line with expectations for a Kölsch. Hops seem more English than Continental. Wellbalanced and well-crafted. It finishes crisp in a palate-cleansing way that ensures another sip.”
