Cape May Brewing King Porter Stomp

LOC: Cape May, New Jersey ABV: 7.4% | IBUS: 40 | SRM: 31

What the brewer says

“The smooth notes of natural chocolate in King Porter Stomp are in perfect syncopation with the five different malts that provide the bass line of this robust beast. Medium-bodied with a chocolate aroma, King Porter Stomp is as smooth as jazz.”

What our panel thought

Aroma: “Moderate floral hops dominate. Light coffee roast underneath. Grassy hops with a hint of citrus and mint. Dry cocoa/chocolate, almost dusty. Alcohol evident.” Flavor: “Very roast-forward espresso and sweet dark chocolate. Bitterness is firm and a touch harsh. Borderline black IPA territory. Chocolate flavor is medium strong, lingering into the aftertaste.” Overall: “Drinkable, but more malt sweetness and richness would balance the combination of roast and hops bitterness. Kind of like a Cascadian IPA without the aroma-hops character to keep things in check.”
