This atyp­i­cal tee is a must for the warm-weather months ahead. The flat­ter­ing ver­ti­cal stripes are formed by work­ing the yoke in an un­ex­pected side-to-side con­struc­tion.

Gauge

24 sts and 32 rnds = 4 inches/10cm in St st. 22 sts and 48 rows/rnds = 4 inches/10cm in garter st. 24 sts and 40 rows = 4 inches/10cm in Lace pat. To save time, take time to check gauge.

Spe­cial Ab­bre­vi­a­tions

Make 1 Left (M1L): In­sert tip of LH nee­dle from front to back un­der strand be­tween sts; knit into the back of the loop. Make 1 Right (M1R): In­sert tip of LH nee­dle from back to front un­der strand be­tween sts; knit into the front of the loop.

Pat­tern Stitch

Note: A chart is pro­vided for those pre­fer­ring to work pat st from a chart. Lace (mul­ti­ple of 18 sts + 2) Row 1 (RS): Knit. Row 2: Purl. Row 3: K1, *[k2­tog] 3 times, [yo, k1] 6 times, [k2­tog] 3 times; rep from * to last st, k1. Row 4: Knit.

Pat­tern Notes

This sweater is seam­less and worked in 2 sec­tions. The yoke is worked side­ways from shoul­der to shoul­der with stitches bound off for the neck open­ing and then re-cast on for the se­cond shoul­der. The yoke is then folded in half, and stitches are picked up along both long sides, then joined in the round for the body. The body is knit­ted down­ward with waist shap­ing, fin­ish­ing with front and back plack­ets.

Yoke and plack­ets are worked flat; do not join.

Cir­cu­lar nee­dle is use to ac­com­mo­date large num­ber of sts.

First Shoul­der Us­ing longer nee­dle and C, cast on 110 (110, 128, 128, 146, 146) sts. Rows 1–12: With C, knit. Rows 13–28 (32, 28, 28, 32, 28): Change to B; work 4-row Lace pat 4 (5, 4, 4, 5, 4) times.

With C, knit 11 rows, end­ing with a RS row. Shoul­der mea­sures ap­prox 31/2 (4, 6, 6, 7, 81/2) inches.

Neck Open­ing

Next row (WS): With C, k38 (38, 56, 56, 56, 56), join a 2nd ball of C and bind off 34 (34, 16, 16, 34, 34) sts, knit to end of row—38 (38, 56, 56, 56, 56) sts each side.

Con­tinue work­ing both sides at once with sep­a­rate balls of yarn.

With B, work 16 (20, 16, 16, 20, 16) rows in Lace pat. With C, knit 12 rows. Rep [last 28 (32, 28, 28, 32, 28) rows] 2 (2, 2, 3, 2, 3) times.

Knit to marker and place these 96 (114, 126, 141, 150, 171) sts on waste yarn for back. Fold yoke in half length­wise.
