Get your lit­tle one ready for cool days in the park with this romper. The sim­ple mock ca­bles-and-rib pat­tern adds tex­tu­ral in­ter­est, and the but­ton front clo­sure makes get­ting it on and off a breeze.

Row 1 (RS): *K3, p1; rep from * to last 3 sts, k3. Row 2: P3, *k1, p3; rep from * to end. Row 3: K3, p1, *Bind 3, p1, k3, p1; rep from * to last 7 sts, Bind 3, p1, k3. When shap­ing in Mock Ca­ble & Rib pat­tern, if you do not have enough stitches to work com­plete Bind 3, work re­main­ing stitches in stock­inette stitch.

Work right-side de­crease rows as fol­lows: K1, work 2 stitches to­gether (k2­tog if 2nd stitch is a knit stitch; p2­tog if 2nd stitch is a purl stitch) at be­gin­ning of row; work 2 stitches to­gether (ssk if first stitch is a knit stitch; ssp if first stitch is a purl stitch), k1 at end.

Us­ing larger nee­dles and pro­vi­sional cast-on (see page 111), cast on 33 (38, 39) sts.

Work­ing from chart, work 2 rows in Mock Ca­ble & Rib pat, beg and end­ing as in­di­cated for de­sired size. Shape Leg Inc 1 st at beg of next RS row, then [ev­ery 6 (8, 8) rows] 6 (6, 7) times, work­ing inc sts in pat—40 (45, 47) sts.

Work even un­til piece mea­sures 7 (8, 91/2) inches, end­ing with a WS row. Shape Crotch Next row (RS): Bind off 2 sts, work to end—38 (43, 45) sts.

Dec 1 st at beg of next 2 RS rows, then work 1 WS row—36 (41, 43) sts.

Place sts on holder.
