81/2 inches wide x 8 inches high (not including strap)
• DK weight yarn (100% superwash merino wool; 136 yds/50g per ball): 1 ball each brown (MC) and purple (B); 50 yds each light blue (C), light green (D), white (E), dark red (F), gold (G) and pink (H) • Size 5 (3.75mm) straight and double-point needles (set of 3) or size needed to obtain gauge • Size F/5 (3.5mm) crochet hook • Blunt tapestry needle • Stitch markers • 31/2-inch square of cardboard for
24 sts and 32 rows = 4 inches/ 10cm in St st. To save time, take time to check gauge.
With MC, use provisional cast-on (see page 111) to cast on 45 sts.
Work in St st until piece measures 61/4 inches and mark both sides of fabric to indicate bottom.
Continue in St st for another 61/4 inches. Place live sts on waste yarn. Remove provisional cast-on and place live stitches on waste yarn.
Block rectangle to 81/2 inches wide by 121/2 inches long, making sure to square corners at right angles.
Fold rectangle in half at marked positions.
Sew side seams using mattress st (see page 112). Eyelets & Top Edge Slip 90 live sts to 3 dpns distributed 28-34-28.
Join MC at side edge and knit 7 rnds. Eyelet rnd: K5, yo, *k2tog, k7, yo; rep from * around to last 4 sts, k2tog, k2. Knit 7 rnds. Change to B. Knit 3 rnds. Note: If not familiar with single crochet (sc), picot and slip stitch (sl st), see Crochet Class on page 113. Refer to Enticing Embellishments on page 18 for picot bind-off.
With crochet hook, work picot bindoff as follows: *6 sc, picot; rep from * around, sl st to join, cut yarn and weave in end.
Note: Refer to Enticing Embellishments on page 18 for detailed instructions as needed. Following charts, duplicate-stitch pat across upper and lower edge of front and back 1 inch from top and bottom.
With D, embroider stems with running chain and feather stitches.
With D, knit 3 leaves and sew with whipstitch (see page 112) to surface of bag.
With E, make 4 bobbles and sew to surface of bag for flower centers; with H, embroider petals around bobbles using single chain stitches.
With F, embroider 3 flower centers using satin stitch; with G, surround each center with petals using single chain stitches.
With C, embroider French knot accents as desired.
With B, cast on 4 sts, leaving a 6-inch tail.
Work I-cord (see page 111) 32 inches long. Weave in ends. Weave I-cord through eyelets starting at center hole on front of bag.
