• Ply­mouth Yarn Baby Al­paca Grande (chunky weight; 100% baby al­paca; 110 yds/ 100g per skein): 1 skein shi­take #2878

• Size 11 (8mm) nee­dles or size needed to ob­tain gauge

• Stitch marker

• 2 (21/2-inch) but­tons

• Sewing nee­dle and match­ing thread


11 sts and 21 rows = 4 inches/

10cm garter st. To save time, take time to

check gauge.

Pat­tern Note

Cowl can be made us­ing 2 cir­cu­lar nee­dles or Magic Loop method if pre­ferred.


Cast on 48 sts. Pm for beg of rnd and

join, be­ing care­ful not to twist sts. Work in garter st (knit 1 rnd, purl 1 rnd) un­til piece mea­sures 8 inches from cast-on edge. Bind off as fol­lows: *Bind off 4 sts, draw up a large loop from last bound-off st and pass en­tire ball of yarn through loop, draw­ing close to se­cure st; drop next st off nee­dle and al­low it to un­ravel down to cast-on row; loosely carry yarn across dropped st; rep from * around.


Stretch gen­tly to en­sure all dropped sts have un­rav­eled. Sew on but­tons. Twist, fold or roll scarf as de­sired, us­ing drop-st area for but­ton­holes.
