worked in rnds with size 10½needle. To save time, take time to check gauge. Special Abbreviation M1 (Make 1): Inc by making a backward loop over right needle. Pattern Stitches Garter st in rows: Knit every row. Garter st in rnds: Knit 1 rnd, purl 1 rnd. Pattern Notes Circular needle is used for sleeves and upper portions of front and back to accommodate large number of stitches. Do not join, work back and forth in rows. Sleeves and upper body are worked from cuff to cuff. Piece is folded in half, side and sleeve seams are joined, and then stitches are picked up around bottom edge of body to work lower part of body. Lower front and back are worked in the round on circular needles to side slits, then divided and worked in rows. Left Sleeve With size 101/2 needle, cast on 34 (34, 36, 36, 36) sts. Beg garter st in rows and work 12 rows even. Shape Sleeve Beg on next row, and working 1 st in from edge, inc 1 st by M1 at each edge [every 6th row] 0 (0, 13, 13, 13) times, then every 8th row 16 (16, 6, 6, 6) times—66 (66, 74, 74, 74) sts. Continue to work even until sleeve
measures 20 inches from beg. Body Cast on 27 (28, 25, 26, 26) sts at beg of next 2 rows—120 (122, 124, 126, 126) sts. Continue to work even in garter st for 5 (6, 63/4, 71/2, 8) inches from cast on, ending with a WS row. Divide for Back & Front Work across first 60 (61, 62, 63, 63) sts;
place sts on holder for back. Front Shape Neck Continuing on rem sts for front only, bind off 6 sts for left front neck edge, work in established garter st to end of row. Work 1 row even on rem 54 (55, 56, 57, 57) sts.
Dec row (RS): Dec 1 st at neck edge on this row, then [every other row] 5 more times—48 (49, 50, 51, 51) sts. Work even for 23 (23, 26, 30, 30) rows. Inc row (RS): Inc 1 st at neck edge on this row, then [every other row] 5 more times—54 (55, 56, 57, 57) sts. Work 1 row even. Place front sts
on holder. Back Slip sts from first holder back to needle and attach yarn to WS. Continue to work even in established garter st until back measures same as front, ending with a WS row. Join Back & Front Work across sts to end of row, cast on 6 sts for right front neck edge, continue with same ball of yarn across sts from 2nd holder to join back and front pieces—120 (122, 124, 126, 126) sts. Work even for 5 (6, 63/4, 71/2, 8) inches. Shape Sides Bind off 27 (28, 25, 26, 26) sts at beg of
next 2 rows—66 (66, 74, 74, 74) sts. Right Sleeve Work even for 7 rows. Shape Sleeve Beg on next row, and working 1 st in from edge, dec 1 st at each edge [every 8th row] 16 (16, 7,7, 7) times, then [every 6th row] 0 (0, 12, 12, 12) times—34 (34, 36, 36, 36) sts. Continue to work even on rem sts until sleeve measures 20 inches from beg, ending with a WS row. Bind off all sts. Assembly Fold in half along top of sleeves to form front and back. Sew sleeve and side seams. Lower Body With size 101/2 needle, pick up and knit 68 (76, 84, 92, 96) sts evenly across lower edge of front, pm, rep across lower edge of back. Join without twisting, pm for beg of rnd—136 (152, 168, 184, 192) sts. Work in garter st in rnds until bottom band measures 4 (4, 41/2, 43/4, 5) inches from beg, ending with a purl rnd. Divide for Slits Knit to first marker, turn, place rem sts
on spare needle. *Continuing on these sts only, work garter st in rows for 3 inches, ending with a WS row. Bind off all sts. Join yarn to sts on spare needle and knit across row. Rep from * for other side. Turtleneck Beg at center back neck with size 10 needle, pick up and knit 71 sts evenly around neck edge. Join without twisting, and pm for beg of rnd. Work in garter st in rnds until collar measures 4 inches. Change to size 101/2 needle and work even until collar measures 6 inches. Change to size 11 needle and work even until collar measures 8 inches. Bind off loosely.
