Mitered Square Rnd 1: With MC, [k2­tog, knit to 2 sts

be­fore marker, ssk] 4 times. Rnd 2: Purl. Rnd 3: [K2­tog, *yo, k2­tog; rep from * to

2 sts be­fore marker, ssk] 4 times. Rnd 4: Knit. Rnd 5: [P2­tog, knit to 2 sts be­fore

marker, p2­tog] 4 times. Cut MC. Rnd 6: Us­ing CC, knit around. Rnds 7 and 9: [K2­tog, knit to 2 sts

be­fore marker, ssk] 4 times. Rnd 8: *K1, p1; rep from * around. Rnd 10: Knit. Cut CC. Rep Rnds 1–10 for pat.

Pat­tern Notes

Each rect­an­gle be­gins at the outer edge and de­creases to the cen­ter. Change to dou­ble-point nee­dles when stitches no longer fit around cir­cu­lar nee­dle. De­creases are worked on each side of mark­ers ev­ery odd-num­bered round; 8 stitches are de­creased on each de­crease round. Each new rect­an­gle is picked up along 1 long edge of the pre­vi­ous rect­an­gle.

Shawl

Rect­an­gle 1 Us­ing MC and cir­cu­lar nee­dle, [cast on 42 sts, pm, cast on 62 sts, pm] twice, plac­ing a dif­fer­ent-color marker at end for beg of rnd; join with­out twist­ing—208 sts.

Work [Rnds 1–10 in Mitered Square pat] 4 times—48 sts rem with 2 sts be­tween mark­ers on short sides and 24 be­tween mark­ers on long sides of the rect­an­gle. Di­vide sts onto 2 nee­dles and work 3-nee­dle bind-off (see page 111) to close cen­ter. Cut yarn and fas­ten off. Rect­an­gle 2 Us­ing MC and cir­cu­lar nee­dle, cast on 42 sts, pm, cast on 62 sts, pm, cast on 42 sts; pick up and knit 62 sts along long side edge of pre­vi­ous rect­an­gle, place dif­fer­ent­color marker for beg of rnd; join with­out twist­ing—208 sts. Work rect­an­gle same as rect­an­gle 1. Rec­tan­gles 3–5 Work same as for rect­an­gle 2.

Fin­ish­ing

Weave in ends. Block to mea­sure­ments.
