Make 1 Left (M1L): Insert tip of LH needle from front to back under horizontal strand between last st worked and next st on LH needle; k1 through back of resulting loop. Make 1 Right (M1R): Insert tip of LH needle from back to front under horizontal strand between last st worked and next st on LH needle; k1 in front of resulting loop.
2x2 Rib (multiple of 4 sts) Rnd 1: *K2, p2, rep from * to end. Rep Rnd 1 for pat.
Mitts are worked in the round. After thumb gusset increases are completed, the thumb stitches are placed on waste yarn while the remainder of the hand is worked. Then these stitches are returned to the needles to complete the thumb. Mitts are embellished with embroidered lazy daisy and running stitches. Feel free to place flowers randomly on the back of the hand. Add or subtract blooms to suit your fancy!
With MC, cast on 44 sts; distribute evenly onto dpns; mark beg of rnd and join, being careful not to twist sts. Work in 2x2 Rib for 21/2 inches. Set-up rnd: [K2, p2] 6 times, k2, p1, k12,
p1, k2, p2. Work 3 rnds in established pat. Thumb Gusset Rnd 1: M1L, k2, M1R, pm, work to end
of rnd—4 gusset sts. Rnd 2: Work even, knitting all sts
between gusset markers. Top Work even until mitt measures 51/2 inches
or 1 inch less than desired length. Work 5 rnds in 2x2 Rib. Bind off loosely in rib. Thumb Transfer 14 gusset sts to dpns; with MC, pick up and knit 2 sts from body of mitt at top of thumb hole, mark beg of rnd and join—16 sts. Work 5 rnds in 2x2 Rib or to desired
length. Bind off loosely in rib.
With MC, cast on 44 sts; distribute evenly onto dpns; mark beg of rnd and join, being careful not to twist sts. Work in 2x2 Rib for 21/2 inches. Set-up rnd: K2, p2, k2, p1, k12, p1, [k2,
p2] 6 times. Complete as for right mitt.
Weave in ends. Block to measurements.
