In order to make your shawl match the sample, you will need to use the 2nd ball of yarn, starting from the outermost color to work your swatch. Then, wind the remaining yarn from the outside in a ball until roughly 2 inches before the color changes; cut the yarn and set aside. Start with the first ball, pulling the yarn from the center and use it until you run out of yarn. Switch to the 2nd ball and work from the outside color. Use the ball of yarn you wound off to work the edgings on both sides of the piece.
Keep 2 stitches at each edge in garter stitch (knit every row) throughout.
Using provisional cast-on (see page 81), cast on 105 sts. Setup Row (WS): K2, pm, p101, pm, k2. Row 1 (RS): K2 (edge sts), sm, work in Falling Leaves Lace pat to marker, sm, k2 (edge sts).
Work even until piece measures approx 55 inches from beg, ending with Row 16 of Lace pat.
Switch to the ball of yarn that you made with the outer color from the cake. Knit 4 rows. Bind off all sts kwise.
Carefully remove the waste yarn from the provisional cast-on. Using the ball of yarn, knit 4 rows. Bind off all sts kwise.
Weave in ends. Wash and block to measurements.
