Gauge

21 sts and 28 rows = 4 inches/ 10cm in St st. To save time, take time to check gauge.

Pat­tern Stitch

Star (mul­ti­ple of 4 sts + 6 edge sts) Row 1 (RS): K3 (edge sts), *(k3­tog-tbl, yo, k3­tog-tbl) in same 3 sts, k1; rep from * to last 3 sts, sl 3 pwise wyif (edge sts). Rows 2 and 4: K3 (edge sts), purl to last 3 sts, sl 3 pwise wyif (edge sts). Row 3: K3 (edge sts), *k1, (k3­tog-tbl, yo, k3­tog-tbl) in same 3 sts; rep from * to last 3 sts, sl 3 pwise wyif (edge sts).

Pat­tern Notes

Scarf in­cor­po­rates 3-stitch I-cord edges at each side.

Make the tas­sels first to en­sure the full skein of yarn is used for the scarf.

Tas­sels

Make 6 tas­sels and set aside. Wrap yarn 40 times around short side of a 6-inch x 9-inch note­book or card­board piece.

Thread ta­pes­try nee­dle with 12-inch strand of yarn and tie top of tas­sel snugly. Re­move nee­dle, leav­ing tie to at­tach to work.

Cut bot­tom ends of yarn and re­move from card­board.

Thread ta­pes­try nee­dle with 18-inch strand of yarn and wrap snugly around tas­sel, about 1 inch from top, 6–10 times. Tie knot in wrap yarn and bury ends in­side tas­sel.

Trim tas­sel ends evenly.

Scarf

Cast on 50 sts. Rows 1–6: K3 (edge sts), knit to last 3 sts, sl 3 pwise wyif (edge sts).

Work Rows 1–4 of Star pat un­til ap­prox 10 yds of yarn rem. Rep Rows 1–6. Bind off all sts.

Fin­ish­ing

At­tach tas­sels, 3 at each end of scarf (1 at right, 1 at left and 1 at cen­ter). Weave in all ends. Block scarf to di­men­sions to bring out pat.
