Gauge

25 sts and 37 rnds = 4 inches/ 10cm in St st. To save time, take time to check gauge.

Hat Spe­cial Ab­bre­vi­a­tions

Make 1 (M1): In­sert LH nee­dle from back to front un­der hor­i­zon­tal strand be­tween last st worked and next st on LH nee­dle; knit into front of re­sult­ing loop. Make 2-St Bob­ble (MB2): Kfb, turn; p2, turn; k2, pass 2nd st over first st—1 st rem. Make 3-St Bob­ble (MB3): Knit into front, back, then front of st (3 sts in 1), slip old st off, turn; p3, turn; k3, pass 2nd and 3rd sts over first st—1 st rem. Slip marker (sm): Slip marker from LH to RH nee­dle.

Pat­tern Stitch

Lacy Di­ag­o­nal (mul­ti­ple of 3 sts) Rnd 1: *Yo, ssk, k1; rep from * to end of rnd. Rnd 2: Knit.

Rnd 3: *K1, yo, ssk; rep from * to end of rnd. Rnd 4: Knit.

Move marker 1 st to left so that first st be­comes last st for next rnd. Rnd 5: Rep Rnd 3. Rnd 6: Knit to last st; move marker 1 st to right so that last st be­comes first st of next rnd.

Pat­tern Notes

One mini-skein set will make both the hat and the fin­ger­less mitts.

Hat is worked in the round from the bot­tom up, be­gin­ning with the cir­cu­lar nee­dle and switch­ing to dou­ble-point nee­dles when needed.

Bob­bles are worked at same time as hat; stems, leaves and flower petals are em­broi­dered af­ter hat is fin­ished.

When mak­ing bob­bles that con­tain 6 or fewer stitches be­tween them, strand bob­ble color be­hind stock­inette color. When there are more than 6 stitches be­tween bob­bles, use a sep­a­rate strand of yarn for each; cut yarn when com­pleted.

To keep track of re­peat in bob­ble sec­tion, put a marker af­ter stitches 42 and 84.

Hat Brim

With cir­cu­lar nee­dle and D, cast on 96 sts; mark beg of rnd and join with­out twist­ing to work in rnds. Rnd 1: Purl. Rnds 2–13: Work Rnds 1–6 of Lacy Di­ag­o­nal pat twice. Rnd 14: Purl. Cut D.

Body

Change to E. Inc Rnd: K2, M1, *k3, M1; rep from * to last st, k1—128 sts.

Work in St st (knit ev­ery rnd) for 1 inch.

Bob­bles Con­tin­u­ing with E for back­ground, work bob­bles in in­di­cated color. Rnd 1 (Bob­bles with D): *K12, [k5, MB3] 3 times, k12; rep from * twice, k2. Cut D. Rnds 2–4: Knit.

Work sin­gle chain sts around bob­bles as de­sired to cre­ate flow­ers.

Weave in ends.

With A, cast on 56 sts and di­vide evenly on 4 dpns; mark beg of rnd and join, be­ing care­ful not to twist sts. Rnd 1: Purl. Rnds 2–11: Work Feather and Fan pat twice, then rep [Rnds 1 and 2] once more. Dec Rnd: K2­tog, *k4, k2­tog; rep from * to end—46 sts. Cut A.

Garter Band

Change to B. Rnd 1: Knit. Rnd 2: Purl. Rnds 3–6: Rep [Rnds 1 and 2] twice. Rnd 7: Knit. Cut B.

Bob­bles Sec­tion Change to C for back­ground and work bob­bles in in­di­cated color. Rnds 1 and 2: With C, knit. Rnd 3 (Bob­bles with D): K3, *MB, k3; rep from * to last 3 sts, MB, k2. Cut D. Thumb Gus­set

Rep [Rnds 4–6] 5 times—18 gus­set sts be­tween mark­ers. Next Rnd: K22, place 18 gus­set sts on waste yarn, knit to end of rnd—44 sts.

Top Hand

Con­tin­u­ing with C, knit un­til piece mea­sures 2 inches from top of thumb gus­set. Cut C. Edg­ing Change to D. Rnds 1 and 2: Work 1x1 Rib. Rnd 3: K1, k2­tog, [k3, k2­tog] 8 times, k1—35 sts.

Work [Pi­cot Bind-Off] 17 times, bind­ing off 3 sts on last rep.

Thumb

Trans­fer 18 gus­set sts back to nee­dles.

With D, pick up and knit 2 sts in gap, pm—20 sts. Rnd 1: Knit. Rnds 2–4: Work 1x1 Rib.

Bind off in pat.

Fin­ish­ing

See Em­broi­dery Tu­to­rial on page 33. Flow­ers Make 2 for each mitt With straight nee­dles and B, cast on 43 sts. Row 1 (RS): *K1, yo, k5, slip 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th sts over first st, yo; rep from * to last st, k1—29 sts. Row 2: P1, *p3­tog, p1; rep from * to end of row—15 sts. Row 3: K1, *k2­tog; rep from * to end of row—8 sts.

Pass 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th sts over first st. Fas­ten off, leav­ing a long yarn tail. Sew seam with yarn tail. Cut a 10-inch strand of A and make a Palest­rina knot in cen­ter of flower.

With D, make 2nd flower and use C for cen­ter knot.

Sew flow­ers to top of mitts.

Stem Stitch With E, work 2 sets of 3-branch stem sts and 1 set of 2-branch stem sts com­ing out of flow­ers as shown in tu­to­rial photos.

Chain Stitch With 36-inch strand of A, work ch over B stripe at wrist.

Weave in ends.
