7 dc = 2 inches; 5 rows = 3 inches

PAT­TERN NOTES

To main­tain color strip­ing se­quence when join­ing the 2nd cake, be­gin the 2nd cake with the next color that fol­lows the last color of the first cake. Cut away ex­tra­ne­ous yarn as needed and save it to make fringe. Weave in loose ends as work pro­gresses. Chain-3 at be­gin­ning of row counts as first dou­ble cro­chet un­less other­wise stated. Chain-8 at be­gin­ning of row counts as first dou­ble cro­chet and chain-5 un­less other­wise stated.

Row 1: Ch 69, dc in 4th ch from hook (beg 3 sk chs count as first

dc), dc in next 5 chs, [ch 5, sk next 5 chs, dc in next 7 chs] across, turn. (42 dc, 5 ch-5 sps) Row 2: Ch 3 (see Pat­tern Notes), dc in next 6 dc, [ch 5, sk next ch-5 sp, dc in next 7 dc] across, work­ing last dc in top of beg ch-3, turn.

Rows 3 & 4: Rep row 2. Row 5: Ch 8 (see Pat­tern Notes), sk first 6 dc, [dc in next dc, 5 dc in next ch-5 sp, dc in next dc, ch 5, sk next 5 dc] across, dc in top of beg ch-3, turn. (37 dc, 6 ch-5 sps)

FRINGE

Cut 168 12-inch lengths of yarn, rep­re­sent­ing yarn col­ors equally. Ar­range pieces in pairs to cre­ate bal­anced color dis­tri­bu­tion. For each Fringe, hold 2 lengths tog and fold in half. In­sert hook from RS in dc at short end of Shawl, pull folded end through, pull ends through fold, pull ends to tighten knot. Work Fringe in each dc across each short end. Trim ends evenly to de­sired length.
