2 balls #1923 tapestry • Size K/101/2/6.5mm Tunisian crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge • Tapestry needle • 1-inch buttons: 4 GAUGE 14 sts = 4 inches; 12 rows = 4 inches
PATTERN NOTES
Each Tunisian row is worked in 2 steps: the forward pass and working loops off hook. The right side of work is always facing you. First loop on hook is not referenced in the instructions but is part of the stitch counts. Weave in loose ends as work progresses.
SPECIAL STITCHES
Work loops off hook (work lps off hook: Ch 1 (see A of illustra
tion), [yo, pull through 2 lps on hook (see B of illustration)] across. Last lp on hook counts as first lp of next row. Insert hook from front to back between front and back vertical bars, yo, pull up lp on hook (see illustration).
Slip a vertical bar (sl): Insert hook in next vertical bar and leave on hook. Pass slip stitch over (psso): Draw last lp made through slipped st on hook.
Tunisian purl stitch (tps): Bring yarn to front of work, insert hook under next vertical bar, bring yarn to back of work, yo, pull up lp on hook (see illustration).
Slip stitch bind off (sl st bo): Insert hook under next vertical bar, yo, pull through 2 lps.
COWL
Ch 95. Foundation row: Working in back bar of ch (see illustration), pull up a lp in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (95 lps on hook); work lps off hook (see Special Stitches). Row 1: Tks (see Special Stitches) in first st, yo twice (buttonhole made), sk 2 sts, tks in next 2 sts, [yo, sl (see Special Stitches) in next st, tks in next st, psso (see Special Stitches)] across to last 5 sts, tps (see Special Stitches) in last 5 sts (95 lps on hook); work lps off hook. Row 2: Tks in first st, [pull up lp in horizontal bar (see illustration) of buttonhole] twice, tks in next 2 sts, [yo, sl next st, tks, psso] across to last 5 sts, tps in last 5 sts (95 lps on hook); work lps off hook. Rows 3–6: Tks in 5 sts, [yo, sl in next st, tks in next st, psso] across to last 5 sts, tps in last 5 sts (95 lps on hook); work lps off hook. Rows 7–18: Rep rows 1–6 twice. Row 19: Rep row 1.
