PAT­TERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work pro­gresses. Chain-1 at mid­point of round counts as sin­gle cro­chet un­less oth­er­wise stated. Work in con­tin­u­ous rounds; do not join un­less oth­er­wise stated. Place stitch marker where in­di­cated and move up as each round is com­pleted. Use dif­fer­ent colors to dis­tin­guish be­gin­ning from mid­point of each round. Chain-1 at be­gin­ning of round counts as first sin­gle cro­chet un­less oth­er­wise stated. Join with slip stitch as in­di­cated un­less oth­er­wise stated. Toy is in­tended to be some­what flat rather than round; lightly stuff with fiber­fill as work pro­gresses to cre­ate a pil­low ef­fect. For ease and to se­cure loose ends, sew Nose, Eyes and Tail to Head and Body as work pro­gresses. Do not close open end of any piece un­less oth­er­wise stated.

Rnd 1: With black, ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, ch 1 (see Pat­tern Notes), place marker (see Pat­tern Notes), work­ing in op­po­site side

of foun­da­tion ch, sc in each ch across. Do not join (see Pat­tern Notes). (7 sc) Rnd 2: Ch 1 (see Pat­tern Notes), place marker, 2 sc in first st, sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, sc in next marked st, 2 sc in next st, sc in next st, 2 sc in last st. (12 sc)

Rnds 3 & 4: *Sc in next marked st, 2 sc in next st, sc in each st around to last st be­fore next marked st, 2 sc in next st. Rep from * around. (20 sc at end of rnd 4)

Rnds 5 & 6: Sc in each st around.

Rnds 7 & 8: *Sc in next marked st, sc dec (see Stitch Guide) in next 2 sts, sc in each st around to last 2 sts be­fore next marked st, sc dec in next 2 sts. Rep from * to end of rnd. At end of last rnd, join (see Pat­tern Notes) in marked st. Fas­ten off, leav­ing a long tail for sewing. HEAD

Rnd 1: With bone, ch 9, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 1, place marker, work­ing in op­po­site side of foun­da­tion ch, sc in each ch across to last ch, 2 sc in last ch. (18 sc)

Rnd 2: Ch 1, place marker, 2 sc in next st, sc in each st around to last st be­fore marked st, 2 sc in next st, sc in next marked st, 2 sc in next st, sc in each st around to last st be­fore marked st, 2 sc in last st. (23 sc)

Rnds 3 & 4: *Sc in next marked st, 2 sc in next st, sc in each st around to last st be­fore marked st, 2 sc in next st. Rep from * around. (31 sc at end of rnd 4)

Rnd 5: Sc in each st around. Rep rnd 5 un­til piece mea­sures at least 21/2 inches from beg. Re­move lp from hook and place on marker to pre­vent un­rav­el­ing. Cen­ter Nose 1/2 inch from beg of Head. With ta­pes­try nee­dle, sew se­curely (see Pat­tern Notes) to Head, knot­ting and leav­ing trimmed tails in­side Head. Re­place lp on hook, rep rnd 5 un­til Head mea­sures 3 inches from beg. Lightly stuff with fiber­fill here and as work pro­gresses. With black and ta­pes­try nee­dle, and re­fer­ring to photo as a guide, sew 2 straight lines for eyes, each about 1 inch in length and 1/4 inch apart, on Head. Knot loose ends tog on in­side of Head, leave trimmed tails in­side Head. Re­place lp on hook, rep rnd 5 un­til Head mea­sures 4 inches from beg.

Next rnd: *Sc in next marked st, sc dec in next 2 sts, sc around to last 2 sts be­fore next marked st, sc dec in next 2 sts. Rep from * around. (27 sc) Last rnd: Rep last rnd, join in marked st. Fas­ten off. (23 sc)

TAIL

Rnd 1: With bone, make a slip ring (see il­lus­tra­tion). Ch 1, 4 sc in ring, place marker in first sc. Pull tail to close ring. (4 sc) Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. (8 sc) Rnds 3–6: Sc in each st around. Rnd 7: *Sc in next 2 sts, sc dec in next 2 sts. Rep from * around. (6 sc)

Rnds 8 & 9: Sc in each st around; at end of last rnd, join in beg sc. Fas­ten off, leav­ing a 6-inch tail for sewing.

BODY

Rnd 1: With red, ch 15, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 1, place marker, work­ing in op­po­site side of foun­da­tion ch, sc in each ch across to last ch, 2 sc in last ch. (29 sc)

Rnd 2: Ch 1, place marker, 2 sc in next st, sc in each st around to last st be­fore marked st, 2 sc in next st, sc in next marked st, 2 sc in next st, sc in each st around to last st be­fore marked st, 2 sc in last st. (34 sc)

Rnds 3–6: *Sc in next marked st, 2 sc in next st, sc in each st around to last st be­fore marked st, 2 sc in next st. Rep from * around. (50 sc at end of rnd 6) Lightly stuff with fiber­fill here and as work pro­gresses.

Rnds 7–11: Sc in each st around. Rnd 12: Sc in next 3 sts, bpsc (see Stitch Guide) in next 20 sts, sc in each rem st around. Rnds 13–16: Sc in each st around. Re­move lp from hook and place on marker.

Cen­ter Tail 1/4 inch above bpsc ridge and sew se­curely to Body, knot­ting and leav­ing trimmed tails on in­side of Body. Re­place lp on hook, rep last rnd un­til Body mea­sures 7 inches from beg. Next rnd: *Sc in next marked st, sc dec in next 2 sts, sc around to last 2 sts be­fore next marked st, sc dec in next 2 sts. Rep from * around. (46 sc)

Last rnd: Sc in next marked st, sc dec in next 2 sts, sc around to last 2 sts be­fore next marked st, sc dec in next 2 sts, leave rem sts un­worked, join in next marked st. Fas­ten off, leav­ing a 10-inch tail for sewing. (21 sc)

Rnds 3–6: Sc in each st around. Rnd 7: Sc in next marked st, sc dec in next 2 sts, sc in next 4 sc, sc dec in next 2 sts, sc in each rem st around. (15 sc)

Rnd 8: Sc in next 3 sts, leave rem sts un­worked, join in next st. Fas­ten off and weave in end. Note: This side is the un­der­side of the paw. With black and ta­pes­try nee­dle, and leav­ing a long tail, em­broi­der 3 straight stitches (see il­lus­tra­tion on this page and photo on page 7) for “claws” on top side, work­ing from WS out from beg rnds. With­out pulling too tightly, se­curely knot tails in­side Paw. Lightly stuff with fiber­fill here and as work pro­gresses.

Leg

Rnd 9: With RS fac­ing, sc join

(see Spe­cial Stitch) red in first un­worked st, re­po­si­tion marker on this st for first st of rnd, sc in each st around, join in beg sc. (15 sc) Rnd 10: Ch 1, bpsc in each st around. Rnd 11: Sc in next 2 sts, sc dec in next 2 sts, sc in next 5 sts, sc dec in next 2 sts, sc to beg of rnd. (13 sc) Rnd 12: Sc in each st around. Rep rnd 12 un­til piece mea­sures 41/2 inches from beg, at end of last rnd, join in beg sc. Fas­ten off, leav­ing an 8-inch tail for sewing. Lightly stuff, shap­ing Paw as de­sired and keep­ing Leg some­what flat.

EAR

Make 2. Row 1 (RS): With black, ch 9, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (8 sc) Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sk first sc, sc in each rem st across. (7 sc) Rows 4 & 5: Rep row 2. Rows 6 & 7: Rep row 3. (5 sc at end of row 7) Rows 8 & 9: Rep rows 2 and 3. (4 sc)

Row 10: Ch 1, turn, sc dec in first 2 sts, sc in next 2 sts. (3 sc)

Row 11: Ch 1, turn, sc dec in first 2 sts, sc in last st. (2 sc)

Row 12: Ch 1, turn, sc dec in 2 sts. Fas­ten off.

Edg­ing rnd: With RS of row 1 fac­ing, sc join black in end of row 1, work­ing up first side, sc in end of each rem row, 3 sc in st of row 12, work­ing down other side, sc in end of each row, work­ing in op­po­site side of foun­da­tion ch, sc in each ch across, join in beg sc. ASSEM­BLY

Re­fer to photo as a guide.

Ears

Po­si­tion Ears at a slight an­gle at open end of Head, plac­ing 1/2 inch apart at cen­ter front and 1 inch apart at cen­ter back of Head. Sew evenly to top sts of Head, leav­ing bot­tom of Ears un­sewn.

Body & Head

Ad­just fiber­fill in Body and Head, adding more for a firm neck or re­mov­ing some for a floppy neck. Po­si­tion Head and Body with Nose and Tail fac­ing up. With red, sew Head and Body tog.

But­tons

Po­si­tion but­tons be­low bpsc ridge about 3 inches apart and 11/4 inches from each side. With sewing nee­dle and thread, sew se­curely in place.

Col­lar

With red, ch 21, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Fas­ten off, leav­ing a long tail for sewing. Po­si­tion around neck and sew in place to cover seam.
