For best results, check gauge as work progresses. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated. Leave stitch behind rib stitch on current round unworked.
Rib stitch (rib st): Yo, draw up lp around post of next st 2 rows below, yo, draw up lp around post of same st, yo, draw through 4 lps on hook, yo, draw through rem 2 lps on hook.
Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 27, 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch and in each ch across to last ch, 2 sc in last ch, working across opposite side of beg ch, sc in each ch across, join ( see Pattern Notes) in first st. ( 52 sc) Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join in first st. Rnd 3: Rep rnd 2. Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in first st, rib st ( see Special Stitch) around post of next st on rnd 2, * sc in next st, rib st around post of next st on rnd 2, rep from * around, join in first st. ( 26 sc, 26 rib sts) Rnds 5–44: [ Rep rnds 3 and 4 alternately] 20 times. Rnd 45: Rep rnd 3.
Rnd 46: Ch 1, sc in each of first 6 sts, ch 14, sk next 14 sts ( handle made), sc in each of next 12 sts, ch 14, sk next 14 sts ( handle made), sc in each of next 6 sts, join in first st. ( 24 sc, 2 ch- 14 sps) Rnd 47: Ch 1, sc in each st and ch around, join in first st. Rnds 48–50: Rep rnd 2. At end of last rnd, fasten off. Lp Closure Ch 7, join in first ch to form ring. Fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing.
Finishing With yarn tail, sew Lp Closure to center back of rnd 48. Sew button to center front of rnd 48, opposite Lp Closure.
