BUTTERFLY NEST SCARF
Repetition of simple stitches interspersed with spectacular Solomon’s knots make this scarf a “must-make.”
This project is an easy introduction to the Solomon’s knot in a beautiful and delicate scarf.

• Manos del Uruguay Serena sport weight alpaca/ cotton yarn ( 13/4 oz/ 170 yds/ 50g per skein): 2 skeins # 2133 seashell • Size H/ 8/ 5mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge • Tapestry needle
19 sc = 4 inches; rows 1– 6 = 2 inches
For a longer or shorter Scarf, increase or decrease foundation chain in multiples of 4. Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Chain-5 at beginning of row counts as first double treble crochet unless otherwise stated. When instructed to work into a Solomon’s knot, work into the closing single crochet of the stitch. Chain-3 at beginning of row counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.
Solomon’s knot (SK): Draw up lp on hook to 3/ 8 inch, ch 1, sc in sp between single and double strands (to close st).
Row 1 (RS): Ch 238, working in back bar (see illustration), sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. (237 sc) Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first sc, *2 SK (see Special Stitch), sk next 3 sc, sc in next sc, rep from * across, turn. (59 sc, 116 SK)
Row 3: Ch 5 (see Pattern Notes), SK, sk first SK, sl st in next SK (see Pattern Notes), *2 SK, sk next sc, sl st in next SK, rep from * across, SK, dtr (see Stitch Guide) in last sc, turn. (2 dtr, 116 SK)
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in first dtr, ch 3, sk first SK, sc in next SK, *ch 3, sk next SK, sc in next SK, rep from * across, ending last rep with sc in top of beg ch-5, turn. (60 sc, 177 chs)
Row 5: Ch 1, sc in each sc and ch across, turn. (237 sts)
