PAT­TERN NOTES

Mo­tifs are joined to­gether in rows with a joinas- you- go tech­nique. Re­fer to As­sem­bly Di­a­gram for join­ing se­quence of Joined Mo­tifs and Half Mo­tifs. Weave in loose ends as work pro­gresses. Join with slip stitch as in­di­cated un­less oth­er­wise stated. Chain- 3 at be­gin­ning of round counts as first dou­ble cro­chet un­less oth­er­wise stated. Chain- 5 at be­gin­ning of round counts as first tre­ble cro­chet and chain- 1 un­less oth­er­wise stated.

SPE­CIAL STITCHES

Be­gin­ning clus­ter ( beg cl): Ch 3 ( see Pat­tern Notes), [ yo, insert hook in ring, pull up a lp, yo, draw through 2 lps] twice, yo, draw through all 3 lps on hook. Pi­cot: Ch 5 ( does not count as tr, ch 1), sc in 5th ch from hook. Clus­ter ( cl): [ Yo, insert hook in ring, pull up a lp, yo, draw through 2 lps] 3 times, yo, draw through all 4 lps on hook. Be­gin­ning shell ( beg shell): Ch 5 ( see Pat­tern Notes), ( tr, [ch 1, tr] 3 times) in ch- 4 sp of first pi­cot. Shell: ( Tr, [ch 1, tr] 4 times) in ch- 4 sp of in­di­cated pi­cot. Join­ing pi­cot: Ch 2, sl st in ch- 4 sp of ad­ja­cent pi­cot, ch 2, sc in first ch of beg ch- 2. Sin­gle cro­chet join ( sc join): Place slip knot on hook, insert hook in in­di­cated st, yo and pull up a lp, yo and draw through both lps on hook.

First Mo­tif Rnd 1 ( RS): Ch 4, join ( see Pat­tern Notes) in first ch to form a ring, beg cl ( see Spe­cial Stitches) in ring, pi­cot ( see Spe­cial Stitches), [ch 3, cl ( see Spe­cial Stitches) in ring, pi­cot] 5 times, ch 3, join in top of beg cl. ( 6 cl, 6 ch- 3 sps, 6 pi­cots) Rnd 2: Sl st in ch- 4 sp of first pi­cot, beg shell ( see Spe­cial Stitches), pi­cot, [ shell ( see Spe­cial Stitches) in next pi­cot, pi­cot] around, join in 4th ch of beg ch- 5 of beg shell. Fas­ten off. (6 shells, 6 pi­cots)

Joined Mo­tif Rnd 1 ( RS): Rep rnd 1 of First Mo­tif. Rnd 2: Sl st in ch- 4 sp of first pi­cot, beg shell, [ join­ing pi­cot ( see Spe­cial Stitches), shell in next pi­cot] around as needed to join Mo­tifs, join­ing pi­cot, [ shell in next pi­cot, pi­cot] around, join in 4th ch of beg ch- 5 of beg shell. Fas­ten off.

Half Mo­tif Row 1 (RS): Ch 4, sl st in first ch to form a ring, beg cl in ring, pi­cot, [ch 3, cl, pi­cot in ring] twice, turn. ( 1 ch- 4 ring, 3 cls, 3 pi­cots) Row 2: Sl st in ch- 4 sp of first pi­cot, join­ing to 4 ad­ja­cent pi­cots in end of col­umn as shown on Place­ment Di­a­gram, ch 4, sl st in ad­ja­cent pi­cot, ( tr, [ch 1, tr] 3 times) in same ch- 4 sp ( counts as first shell), [ join­ing pi­cot, shell in next pi­cot] twice, join­ing pi­cot. Fas­ten off. Rep to add Half Mo­tif to top and bot­tom of odd- num­bered col­umns as shown in As­sem­bly Di­a­gram.
