size needed to ob­tain gauge • Yarn nee­dle • Stitch mark­ers

SHRUG

Row 1: Ch 26 [ 34, 42], sc in 2nd ch from hook, [ sk 1 ch, shell ( see Spe­cial Stitches) in next ch, sk 1 ch, sc in next ch] across, turn. ( 6 [ 8, 10] shells) Row 2: Beg shell ( see Spe­cial Stitches) in first st, [ sc in cen­ter dc of next shell, shell in next sc] across, turn. ( 7 [ 9, 11] shells) Row 3: Beg shell in first st, sc in next st, [ shell in next sc, sc in cen­ter dc of next shell] across, end­ing with shell in last st of row, turn. ( 8 [ 10, 12] shells) Rows 4–18 [4–20, 4–22]: Rep row 3. ( 23 [ 27, 31] shells af­ter last row) With stitch mark­ers, mark the cen­ter 7 [ 9, 11] shells of row 18 [ 20, 22]. This forms the back neck edge. Lay the Shrug flat so that the first row is at the bot­tom and the last row ( with st mark­ers) is at the top. Top left cor­ner is A; bot­tom left cor­ner is B; top right cor­ner is C; bot­tom right cor­ner is D. Fold cor­ner A to B and cor­ner C to D. With length of yarn sew A/ B tog to form first sleeve seam and then sew C/ D tog to form 2nd sleeve seam.

Rnd 1 ( RS): Join ( see Pat­tern Notes) yarn at bot­tom cen­ter back, ch 1, skip­ping each sc around outer edge, sc in each dc, un­til first st marker, [ sk 1 st, sc in each of next 2 sts] across to 2nd marker, skip­ping sc around rem outer edge, con­tinue to sc evenly in each dc, join in beg sc, re­move mark­ers. Fas­ten off. Weave in ends.
