4 skeins # 1028- 04 rose hip • Size K/ 101/2/ 6.5mm cro­chet hook or size

needed to ob­tain gauge • Size 50 Broom­stick nee­dle • Ta­pes­try nee­dle

GAUGE

In Pat­tern: 14 sts = 4 inches; 7 rows = 4 inches

PAT­TERN NOTES

Weave in ends as work pro­gresses. Broom­stick lace is worked over 2 rows. Your work is never turned; the right side is al­ways fac­ing you. Pull up broom­stick loops only through back loop of the sin­gle cro­chet. The right side in­creases are added with chains. The left side in­creases are added with foun­da­tion sin­gle cro­chet.

SPE­CIAL STITCHES

First foun­da­tion sin­gle cro­chet (first foun­da­tion sc): Insert hook un­der 2 front legs of sc just made, yo, pull up lp, yo, pull through 1 lp on hook (ch-1 com­pleted), yo, pull through all lps on hook (sc com­pleted). Next foun­da­tion sin­gle cro­chet (next foun­da­tion sc): [Insert hook in last ch-1 made (see il­lus­tra­tion), yo, pull up lp, yo, pull through 1 lp on hook (ch-1 made), yo, pull through all lps on hook (sc made)] as in­di­cated. Pi­cot: Chain 3, sl st in the cen­ter of pre­vi­ous sin­gle cro­chet.

Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, do not turn. (5 sc)

Row 2: Pull up lp and sl over broom­stick nee­dle, * insert hook into back lp of next sc, pull up lp and sl over broom­stick nee­dle; rep from * across. (5 lps on nee­dle) Row 3: Insert hook from right to left through 5 lps and slide lps onto hook, yo, pull through 5 lps, yo, ch 6, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 4 chs, 5 sc in cen­ter of lps, first foun­da­tion sc (see Spe­cial Stitches), 4 next foun­da­tion sc (see Spe­cial Stitches). (15 sc)

Row 4: Pull up lp and sl over broom­stick nee­dle, * insert hook into back lp of next sc, pull up lp and sl over broom­stick nee­dle; rep from * across. (15 lps on nee­dle)

Row 5: Insert hook from right to left through all 5 lps and slide lps onto hook, yo, pull through 5 lps, yo, ch 6, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each sc, 5 sc in cen­ter of lps, * insert hook from right to left through next 5 lps and slide lps onto hook, sc in lps; rep from * twice, 5 foun­da­tion sc. Row 6: Pull up lp and sl over broom­stick nee­dle, * insert hook into back lp of next sc, pull up lp and sl over broom­stick nee­dle; rep from * across. (15 lps on nee­dle)

Rows 7– 41: Rep rows 5 and 6, con­tin­u­ing to inc on each end on ev­ery sc row.

Row 42: Ch 1 in broom­stick lps and 5 sc in same lps, *5 sc in cen­ter of next 5 lps; rep from * across. Fas­ten off.

BOR­DER

Join yarn to left side top of shawl with sl st.

Row 1 (RS): Ch 4, *(dc 2, ch 3, dc 2) into the side of next sc, ch 4, sc into side of next sc; rep from * to bot­tom of shawl, (dc 2, ch 3, dc 2) into side of last sc, ch 2, (dc 2, ch 3, dc 2) into side of end sc, pivot shawl, *ch 4, (dc 2, ch 3, dc 2) into the side of next sc, ch 4, sc into side of next sc; rep from * to top of shawl, turn.
