MA­TE­RI­ALS

• Cas­cade Yarns Pin­wheel medium ( worsted) weight acrylic yarn ( 7 oz/ 440 yds/ 200g per skein):

1 skein # 22 ocean waves • Size J/ 10/ 6mm cro­chet hook or size needed

to ob­tain gauge • Ta­pes­try nee­dle • Clover XL pompom maker

GAUGE

12 hdc = 4 inches; 10 hdc rows = 4 inches

PAT­TERN NOTES

Chain-2 at be­gin­ning of row or round does not count as first half dou­ble cro­chet.

Join with slip stitch as in­di­cated un­less oth­er­wise stated.

SPE­CIAL STITCHES

Be­gin­ning dou­ble tre­ble cro­chet clus­ter ( beg dtr cl): Ch 4, ( yo 3 times, insert hook into same st, yo, pull through st, yo and pull through 2 lps, yo and pull through 2 more lps, yo and pull through 2 more lps), leav­ing 2 lps on the hook. Rep be­tween ( ). There should be 3 lps on hook. Yo and pull through all 3 lps. Dou­ble tre­ble cro­chet clus­ter (dtr cl): ( Yo twice, insert hook into same st, yo, pull through st, yo and pull through 2 lps, yo and pull through 2 more lps, yo and pull through 2 more lps), leav­ing 2 lps on the hook. Rep be­tween ( ) twice. There should be 4 lps on hook. Yo and pull through all 4 lps.

HAT

Row 1: Beg at brim, ch 74, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in all rem chs. (72 hdc)

Row 2: Ch 2 (see Pat­tern Notes), turn. Hdc in same st and in each st across.

Rows 3–12: Rep row 2. At the end of row 12, do not turn, sl st in top of first hdc of same row to join.

Row 13: Now beg work­ing in rnds. Ch 1, sc in same st, [ch 1, sk 5 sts, ( dtr cl— see Spe­cial Stitches, ch 3, dtr cl, ch 3, dtr cl) in next st, ch 1, sk 5 sts, *sc in next st] 6 times, end­ing at *, join (see Pat­tern Notes) in first sc. (6 sc, 18 dtr cls for 6 shells)

Rows 19–22: Rep rows 15–18. Rows 23 & 24: Rep rows 15 and 16.

Row 25: Ch 1, sc in same st, [sk 13 sts, sc in next st] 5 times, sk rem sts. Join to first sc, fas­ten off. (6 sc)

POMPOM

Make 3. Us­ing XL Clover PomPom maker, wrap with a few more wraps than what the di­rec­tions state. ( There is a warn­ing that it could break the maker, so do so at your own dis­cre­tion).

AS­SEM­BLY

Sew 1 pompom on the top of the hat and 1 on each front cor­ner of the brim.

CON­VERT­IBLE PONY­TAIL/ BUN/ COWL

Fol­low di­rec­tions for Hat through row 24. Fas­ten off.

TIE

Ch 132. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in each rem ch. Fas­ten off.

FIN­ISH­ING & AS­SEM­BLY

Weave tie in and out around mid­dle dtr cl of each set of cls in row 23. Pull the tie tight and tie it off for the hat. Tighten and tie to de­sired open­ing size for bun or pony­tail. Leave tie loose to leave open to use as a cowl. Make 2 or 3 pom­poms as for orig­i­nal di­rec­tions above. Sew 1 pompom on each front cor­ner of the brim.

OP­TIONAL

Sew 1 pompom on the top of the hat. Or you can just tie it on the top so you can wear with or with­out. C!
