2 skeins # 731 nat­u­ral glow • Size K/ 101/2/ 6.5mm cro­chet hook or size

needed to ob­tain gauge • Lock­ing stitch marker • Ta­pes­try nee­dle

GAUGE

In band rib­bing: 9 rows = 4 inches Take time to check gauge.

PAT­TERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work pro­gresses. Work in spi­ral rounds with­out join­ing un­less oth­er­wise stated. Move marker up to track be­gin­ning of rounds. Join with slip stitch as in­di­cated un­less oth­er­wise stated.

SPE­CIAL STITCH

Half dou­ble slip stitch ( hdsl): Yo, insert hook in in­di­cated st, yo and pull through all lps on hook.

BERET RIBBED BAND

Row 1 ( WS): Ch 4, hdsl (see Spe­cial Stitch) in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. (3 hdsl)

Row 2: Ch 1, work­ing in back lps (see Stitch Guide), hdsl across, turn.

Rows 3– 44: Rep row 2.

Join­ing

With RS of short ends tog, work­ing through both lay­ers, sl st across. Turn Band so seam is on in­side of beret. Do not fas­ten off.

One ba­sic stitch is used in dif­fer­ent ways to cre­ate all the beau­ti­ful tex­tures in this pat­tern—from the knit-look rib­bing on the hat­band to the richly tex­tured stitch­ing mak­ing up the top of the beret.

BODY

Rnd 1: Work­ing in ends of rows of ribbed band, ch 1, 2 hdsl in end of each row around, do not join; place marker (see Pat­tern Notes). (88 hdsl)

Rnd 2: [Hdsl in lower back bar (see il­lus­tra­tion) of next hdsl, hdsl in both top lps of next hdsl] around. Rnd 3: [Hdsl in both top lps of next hdsl, hdsl in lower back bar only of next hdsl] around.

Rnds 4–21: Al­ter­nately, rep rnds 2 and 3.

Rnd 22: [Sk next hdsl, hdsl in both top lps of each of next 3 hdsl] around. (66 hdsl)

Rnds 23–27: Rep rnds 2 and 3.

Rnd 28: [Sk next hdsl, hdsl in both top lps of next 2 hdsl] around. (44 hdsl)

Rnds 29–33: Rep rnds 2 and 3. Rnd 34: [Sk next hdsl, hdsl in both top lps of next hdsl] around. (22 hdsl)

Rnds 35 & 36: Rep rnds 2 and 3. Fas­ten off.

FIN­ISH­ING

Weave yarn end through rem sts of rnd 36 and cinch closed. Weave in ends.
