MATERIALS

• Size 10 crochet cotton: 50 yds each white and

dark pink 30 yds each lavender, pink

and purple • Size 6/1.80mm steel crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge • Tapestry needle • 1/8-inch-wide pink ribbon:

14 inches • 12mm white buttons: 3 • Washable craft glue • Small clear-plastic jar with lid

(sample used 4-oz jar)

GAUGE

9 sc = 1 inch; 9 sc rows = 1 inch

PATTERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.

SPECIAL STITCH

Shell: (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in indicated st or sp.

JAR LACE

Row 1: With white, ch 12, shell

(see Special Stitch) in 6th ch from hook, ch 1, sk 2 chs, sc in next ch, ch 2, sk 2 chs, sc in last ch, turn. Row 2: Ch 3, sc in back lp (see

Stitch Guide) of first sc, ch 2, sc in back lp of next sc, ch 1, shell in ch-1 sp of shell, turn.

Row 3: Ch 5, shell in ch-1 sp of shell, ch 1, sc in back lp of next sc, ch 2, sc in back lp of last sc, turn.

Rows 4–49: [Rep rows 2 and 3 alternatel­y] 23 times.

Row 50 (joining): Ch 3, sc in back lp of first sc, ch 2, sc in back lp of next sc, ch 1, (2 dc in ch-1 sp of shell, using care not to twist rows, sl st in base of ch sp of first shell, 2 dc) in same ch-1 sp of row 50. Fasten off.

Assembly

Weave ribbon through ch-2 sps of Jar Lace and fit over top of jar, tie ribbon ends tightly in a bow at center front of jar.

Rnd 1: With dark pink, ch 2, 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join

(see Pattern Notes) in beg sc. Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around, join in beg sc. (14 sc)

Petals

Row 1: Now working in rows joined to rnd 2 of Center, ch 1,

Fill a small clear jar or container with a variety of sweet little crocheted hearts and flowers to give as a unique “I love you” gift. You can also use these motifs to embellish a variety of other items.
