PATTERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated. Chain-3 at beginning of round counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated. Rounds with 5-dc popcorns are worked twice, using black first and then beige worked behind on the same round. When dropping a color to wrong side, draw up loop, secure loop with safety pin. Remove safety pin when picking up color.

Rnds 22–24: Rep rnd 16. At the end of rnd 24, fasten off. With a length of beige, sew corrugated plastic strips to inside edge of Border centered between rnds 16–19 on each front and back of Border.

HANDLE

Make 2.

Row 1: With black, ch 60, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each rem ch across, turn. (59 sc)

Rows 2–7: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn. At the end of row 7, fasten off.

Row 8: Fold Handle in half lengthwise over length of cotton rope, working through both thicknesse­s of row 7 and opposite side of foundation ch, join beige, sl st in each sc across. Fasten off. Insert each end of first Handle in opening of rnd 20 of Bag front and with length of beige, sew each end on the inside edge of the Border. Attach 2nd Handle in same manner on back of Bag.

BOW

Section A

Row 1: With black, ch 40, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each rem ch across, turn. (39 sc)

Rows 2–4: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn. At the end of row 4, fasten off.

Row 5: Join beige in first sc of row 4, sl st in each sc across. Fasten off.

Row 6: Join beige in opposite side of foundation ch, sl st in each ch across. Fasten off.

Section B

Row 1: With black, ch 12, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each rem ch across, turn. (11 sc)

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc across. Fasten off.

Row 3: Join beige in first sc of row 3, sl st in each sc across. Fasten off.

Row 4: Join beige in opposite side of foundation ch, sl st in each ch across. Fasten off. Fold ends of Section A to center and sew tog. Wrap Section B around center and sew ends tog at center back. Sew center back of Section B to center front of Bag over Border rnds.

FINISHING

With a 24-inch length of beige, fold Border rnds 21–24 to inside and sew edge of rnd 24 to rnd 16 of Border.
