PATTERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Chain-2 at beginning of row does not count as a stitch unless otherwise stated. Chain-1 in edging rows is for ease around corners and is not counted as a space. Skip in subsequent rows. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.

SPECIAL STITCH

Single crochet join (sc join): Place a slip knot on hook, insert hook in indicated st, yo and draw up a lp, yo and pull through both lps on hook.

PANEL

Make 2. Row 1 (WS): With size I hook and flame, ch 32, hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (31 hdc) Rows 2–29: Ch 2 (see Pattern Notes), hdc in each st across, turn. At end of last row, do not turn.

Edging

Row 1 (RS): Ch 1, working in ends of rows across next side, work 38 sc evenly sp across, ch 1 (see Pattern Notes), working in opposite side of foundation ch, sc in each ch across, ch 1, working in ends of rows across next side, work 38 sc evenly sp across. Fasten off. (107 sc)

MARKER POCKET

Row 1 (RS): With size H hook and green, ch 18, hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. (17 hdc) Rows 2–17: Ch 2, hdc in each st across, turn. At end of last row, do not turn.

Edging

Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 1, working in ends of rows across next side, work 17 sc evenly sp across, ch 1, working in opposite side of foundation ch, sc in each ch across, ch 1, working in ends of rows across next side, work 17 sc evenly sp across, ch 1, sc in each st across, join (see Pattern Notes) in beg sc. Fasten off. (96 sc)

CRAYON POCKET

Row 1: With size H hook and green, ch 15, hdc in 2nd ch from

hook and in each ch across, turn. (14 hdc) Rows 2–12: Ch 2, hdc in each st across, turn. At end of last row, do not turn.

Edging

Row 1 (RS): Working in ends of rows across first side, work 12 sc evenly sp across, ch 1, working in opposite side of foundation ch, 2 sc in first ch, sc in each ch across to last ch, 2 sc in last ch, ch 1, working in ends of rows across next side, work 12 sc evenly sp across. Fasten off. (40 sc)

Row 2: With size H hook and RS

facing, sc join (see Special Stitch) blacklight to first sc, sc in each of next 10 sts, (sc, ch 1, sc) in next st, sc in each of next 16 sts, (sc, ch 1, sc) in next st, sc in each of next 11 sts. Fasten off. (42 sc)

HANDLES

Make 2.

Row 1 (RS): With size H hook and flame, ch 32, 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each of next 29 chs, 3 sc in next ch, working in opposite side of foundation ch, sk first ch, sc in each of next 29 chs, join in beg sc. Fasten off. (64 sc)

Edging

Rnd 1: With RS facing and working in back lp ( see Stitch Guide), sc join blacklight in same st as join, sc in same st, [2 sc in next st] twice, sc in each of next 29 sts, [2 sc in next st] 3 times, sc in each of next 29 sts, join in beg sc. Fasten off. (70 sc)

Assembly

Step 1. Choose 1 Panel as front Panel. With RS facing and rows of Marker Pocket vertical, place Marker Pocket on front Panel aligning long edge of Pocket with bottom edge of Panel and short

edges of Pocket with sides of Panel. Pin or clip pieces tog.

Step 2. *Thread 1 yd of blacklight in tapestry needle, working through both layers, insert needle from WS through both lps of sc at Edging between 4th and 5th rows of Pocket, embroider 9 chain

stitches (see illustration) evenly sp up Marker Pocket, working last ch st over top edge of Pocket and inserting needle in Panel to WS. Knot end to secure. Rep from * 6 times, sk 4 rows from last embroidered row and working next embroidered row between last sk row and next row.

Step 3. Center Crayon Pocket on front Panel, placing bottom edge 23/4 inches above Marker Pocket. With green, sew pocket to Panel with short straight sts between rows of Edging.

Step 4. Hold front and back Panels with WS tog. To join, with size I hook and working in back lp of back Panel and front lp ( see

Stitch Guide) of front Panel, sc join blacklight in first st of Edging, sc in same st, sc in each st to Marker Pocket, working in front lp of Pocket and front Panel and in back lp of back Panel, sc in each st to last st of side edge, 2 sc in each of next 2 sts, sc in each st across bottom edge to last st, 2 sc in each of next 2 sts, sc in each st up other side edge of Marker Pocket, continuing in back lp of back Panel and front lp of front Panel, sc in rem sts across. Fasten off.

Edging

With size I hook and RS of back Panel facing, sc join blacklight to any sc on top edge, sc in each st around top, working sc in first and last st of joining row, join in beg sc. Fasten off.

FINISHING

Position each Handle where desired on WS of Panels, placing each short end 3/4- inch from top edge. With flame, sew in place.
