PATTERN NOTES

Throw is worked from left to right and bottom to top in diagonal rows. Use size I hook unless otherwise stated. Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Row 2 establishe­s pattern stitch. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated. Chain-3 at beginning of round counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated.

THROW

BLOCK 1

Row 1 (RS): With size I hook and dusty blue, form a slip knot

(see illustrati­on), ch 8, sc in 2nd ch from hook, [ch 1, sk 1 ch, sc in next ch] 3 times, turn. (4 sc,

3 ch-1 sps)

Row 2 (pattern st): Ch 1, sc in first sc, [ch 1, sk next ch-1 sp, sc in next sc] 3 times, turn.

Rows 3–7: Rep row 2. At the end of row 7, fasten off.

BLOCK 2

Row 1 (RS): With size I hook and toffee, form a slip knot, ch 8, sc in 2nd ch from hook, [ch 1, sk 1 ch, sc in next ch] twice, ch 1, sk 1 ch, join (see Pattern Notes) to row 1 of Block 1, turn and work remainder of Block as row 2 of Block 1, join rows 3, 5 and 7 to correspond­ing rows of Block 1, ch 1.

Note: Tie slip knot end of Block 2 to foundation ch of Block 1. Work this on all first Blocks of diagonal row, joining to previous Block.

BLOCK 3

Work in pattern st across top of Block 1 for 7 rows.

BLOCK 4

With Kelly green, work as for Block 2, join to correspond­ing rows same as Block 2 (rows 1,

3, 5 and 7), ch 1.

BLOCK 5

Work pattern st across top of Block 2, joining to correspond­ing rows of Block 3, ch 1.

BLOCK 6

Work in pattern st across top of Block 3 for 7 rows. Fasten off.

BLOCKS 7–10

Beginning with Block 7, with silver blue, work 4 blocks across, as establishe­d with Block 2. Using Placement Diagram as a guide, continue working Blocks across on the diagonal alternatin­g colors dusty blue, toffee, Kelly green and silver blue until there are 5 reps of each color. With sapphire work 21 blocks. Fasten off.

Note: Total 21 Blocks bottom width, 21 Blocks up left edge and 21 sapphire Blocks on the diagonal.

STRIPE 1

Row 1: Draw up a lp of dusty blue in first sc of row 7 of corner sapphire Block, work Block in pattern st across top of sapphire Block at right bottom edge, join to Block at left in rows 1, 3, 5 and 7. Fasten off.

STRIPE 2

Draw up lp of toffee in first sc of last row of dusty blue Stripe 1, ch 1, work pattern st across for 7 rows, working ch 1 over joining seam of row 1 (8 sc, 7 ch-1 sps) and join to correspond­ing rows of sapphire Block to the left. At the end of row 7, fasten off.

STRIPES 3–20

Using Placement Diagram as a guide for color placement, always working ch 1 over joining seam on row 1, continue working stripes across alternatin­g colors of dusty blue, toffee, Kelly green and silver blue across until there are 20 rows of stripes completed.

BORDER

Join chocolate on top left side in last row of silver blue Block, ch 1, sc in same row as beg ch-1, sc in end of each row to bottom, ending with (sc, ch 2, sc) in bottom left corner ch, sc in each ch and ch-1 sp across bottom, ending with (sc, ch 2, sc) in last corner ch at bottom right; A. working up right edge, sc in end of each row, ending with (sc, ch 2, sc) in corner ch-2 sp, working across top, sc in each of next 6 sts (sc or ch-1 sps), sk next ch-1 sp, [sc in each of next 7 sts, sk next ch-1 sp] 18 times; B. sc in next 7 sts and in last 6 sts of last corner Block, (sc, ch 2, sc) in corner sc, sc in each rem row of left side, join in beg sc. (148 each side, 147 sc each top and bottom)

Rnd 2 (RS): Ch 1, sc in same sc as beg ch-1, [ch 1, sk 1 sc, sc in next sc] around, working at first corner, ch 1, (sc, ch 2, sc) in corner ch-2 sp, at 2nd corner, ch 1, sk next sc, (sc, ch 2, sc) in corner ch-2 sp, ch 1, sc in next sc, at 3rd and 4th corners, ch 1, sk next sc, (sc, ch 2, sc) in corner ch-2 sp, at end of rnd, ch 1, sk last sc, join in beg sc, turn.

Rnd 3 (WS): Ch 1, sc in next ch-1 sp, [ch 1, sk next sc, sc in next ch-1 sp] around, working at each corner, ch 1, sk next sc, (sc, ch 2, sc) in corner ch-2 sp, ending rnd with ch 1, sk last sc, join in beg sc, turn.

Rnd 4 (RS): Ch 1, sc in each ch-1 sp and in each sc around, working (sc, ch 2, sc) in each corner ch-2 sp, join in beg sc. Fasten off.

Rnd 5 (RS): Join sapphire in 12th sc from bottom corner sc on right side edge, ch 1, sc in each sc around, working (sc, ch 2, sc) in each corner ch-2 sp, join in beg sc. (157 sc each side, 155 sc each top and bottom)

Rnd 6 (RS): Ch 1, sc in same sc as beg ch-1, [sk next 2 sc,

shell (see Special Stitch) in next sc, sc in next sc] around, working at first and 3rd corners, shell in corner ch-2 sp, sk next 2 sc, sc in next sc and at 2nd and 4th corners, sk next 2 sc, shell in corner ch-2 sp, sc in next sc, ending rnd with sk next 2 sc, join in beg sc, turn.

Rnd 7 (WS): Sl st to center dc of shell, ch 1, sc in same dc as beg ch-1, [shell in next sc, sc in

center dc of next shell] around, working at each corner, shell in next sc, sk 1 dc, sc in next dc, shell in next dc, sc in next dc, join in beg sc, turn.

Rnd 8 (RS): Ch 3 (see Pattern

Notes), [hdc in next dc, sc in each of next 3 dc, hdc in next dc, dc in next sc] around, working at each corner, hdc in each of next 2 dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next corner dc, hdc in each of next 2 dc, dc in next sc, join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3.

Rnd 9 (RS): Ch 1, sc in each st around, working (sc, ch 2, sc) in each corner ch-2 sp, join in beg sc. Fasten off. (165 sc each top and bottom and 171 sc each side)

Rnd 10 (RS): Join Kelly green in 16th sc to the left of any corner, ch 1, sc in same sc as beg ch1, [ch 1, sk next sc, sc in next sc] around, working at each corner, ch 1, sk next sc, (sc, ch 2, sc) in corner ch-2 sp, ending rnd with ch 1, sk last sc, join in beg sc, sl st in next ch-1 sp.

Rnd 11 (RS): Change to size H hook, ch 1, (sc, ch 2, sc) in same ch-1 sp as beg ch-1, [sk next sc, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next ch-1 sp] around, working (sc, ch 2, sc, ch 3, sc, ch 2, sc) in each corner ch-2 sp, join in beg sc. Fasten off. With WS facing, block lightly.
