MATERIALS

• Premier Yarns Ever Soft medium (worsted) weight acrylic yarn (3 oz/158 yds/85g per ball): 14 balls #0024 Celtic • Size H/8/5mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge • Tapestry needle

GAUGE

2 lfhop sts plus 2 dc = 3 inches; 1 lfhop row plus 1 dc row = 1 inch

PATTERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Chain-3 at beginning of row counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated. When instructed to work into leafhopper stitch, work into first and last double crochets and top of 2nd leg. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.

SPECIAL STITCHES

Leafhopper stitch (lfhop st): A. Dc in next st, [yo, insert hook from right to left around same st, yo, pull up a lp] twice (5 lps on hook), yo, pull through 4 lps on hook (first leg); B. sk next st; C. yo, insert hook from right to left around next st, yo, pull up a lp, yo, insert hook from right to left around same st, yo, pull up a lp (6 lps on hook), yo, pull through 4 lps on hook (3 lps on hook), yo, pull through all lps on hook (2nd leg), dc in same st as 2nd leg made. Beginning leafhopper stitch (beg lfhop st): A. Ch 3, [yo, insert hook from right to left around beg ch-3 of previous rnd, yo, pull up a lp] twice (5 lps on hook), yo, pull through 4 lps on hook (first leg); work steps B and C same as lfhop st.

THROW

Row 1 (WS): Ch 135, dc in 4th ch from hook (beg 3 sk chs count as first dc) and in each ch across, turn. (133 dc) Row 2: Ch 3 (see Pattern Notes), [ lfhop st (see Special Stitches), dc in next st] across, turn. (33 lfhop sts, 34 dc) Row 3: Ch 3, dc in each st (see Pattern Notes) across to beg ch-3, dc in top of beg ch-3, turn. (133 dc) Row 4: Ch 3, dc in each of next 2 sts, [lfhop st, dc in next st] across to last 3 sts, dc in each of next 2 dc, dc in top of beg ch-3, turn. (32 lfhop sts, 37 dc) Row 5: Rep row 3. Rows 6–81: [Rep rows 2–5 consecutiv­ely] 19 times. Row 82: Rep row 2. Do not turn.

BORDER

Rnd 1: Ch 1, *working in ends of rows, work 165 sc evenly sp* across first edge, ch 1, working in opposite side of foundation ch, **work 130 sc evenly sp across**, ch 1, rep between * across other side, ch 1, rep between ** across top edge, join (see Pattern Notes) in beg ch-1 sp. (165 sc across each long edge, 130 sc across each short edge, 4 ch-1 sps) Rnd 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in first ch-1 sp, [dc in each sc to next ch-1 sp, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp] around, dc in each rem sc, join in top of beg ch-3. (602 dc) Rnd 3: Beg lfhop st (see Special Stitches), dc in each of next 4 sts, [lfhop st, dc in each of next 4 sts] around, join in top of beg ch-3.
