Thread: #6020 black • 11/8-inch circle yellow felt: 2 • 3/4-inch circle chartreuse felt: 2 • Fabric glue • Tapestry needle GAUGE Gauge is not important for this project. PATTERN NOTES Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Create tight stitches to prevent fiberfill from showing or coming out. Do not join rounds; place stitch marker and move as work progresses. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated. Chain-3 at beginning of row counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated. Sew last 3 sts to sts directly below in body. Weave in yarn ends and trim. EYES Referring to manufactur­er’s instructio­ns, prepare the 4 felt circles for attaching eyes. To create an opening large enough to insert the rod part of safety eye, cut a small X in center of the circles. Apply glue to back of chartreuse circles and place in centers of yellow circles. Insert safety eyes in felt circles. For eye placement: The inner sides of yellow circles are next to forehead feathers and the bottom edge of circles are even with the row below the bottom of the forehead feathers. Put a mark with felt tip marker in each st that each eye will be inserted. Apply glue to backs of yellow circles, insert eyes and attach washer to back of each eye. Stuff owl with fiberfill. BEAK Rnd 1: With size G hook and camel, ch 2, 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, place marker. (3 sc)

Rnd 2: 2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 2 sc. (4 sc)

Rnd 3: 2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 3 sc. (5 sc)

Rnd 4: 2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 4 sc, leaving a 6-inch length, fasten off. (6 sc)

EAR TUFT Make 2.

Row 1: With size I hook and metropolis, ch 2, 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, turn. (3 sc)

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in last sc, turn. (4 sc) Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each of next 3 sc, hdc in next sc, leaving a 6-inch length, fasten off.

FEET Make 2. Note: The talons are created in 2 parts. Part 1 will become first and last toe; part 2 is the middle toe. Part 1

Row 1: With size G hook and camel, ch 10, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each rem ch across, turn. (9 sc)

Rows 2–4: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn. At the end of row 4, leaving a 12-inch length, fasten off. With rem length, with ends of rows tog, sew tog to form a tube.

Part 2

Row 1: With size G hook and camel, ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each of next 2 chs, turn. (3 sc)

Rows 2–4: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn. At the end of row 4, leaving a 12-inch length, fasten off. With rem length, with ends of rows tog, sew tog to form a tube. Attach individual toe (created in

part 2) to the 5th st of part 1.

FINISHING

Sew Beak directly under last 3 sts of forehead. Sew ends of rows of feathers tog. Slip on base form with sewn seam at center back. The top edge is sewn to row 2 below bottom of beak. Sew the bottom of the feathers to body form. Ear tufts are sewn to body next to the widest part of the forehead. Fold tufts in half. Pass needle through st at opposite side of body. Sew a tuft on each side of forehead. For talons, [cut 11/2-inch length of black thread. Pass through end of a toe. Twist ends tog. Bend it around a crochet hook to create curved end for the talon] 6 times creating a talon on each toe. Sew feet to bottom of body.
