MATERIALS

• Lion Brand Yarns Shawl in a Ball medium (worsted) weight cotton/ acrylic yarn (51/4 oz/481 yds/ 150g per ball):

1 ball #203 mindful mauve • Size I/9/5.5mm crochet hook or

size needed to obtain gauge • Tapestry needle

GAUGE

8 blocks = 7 inches

PATTERN NOTES

Cowl is worked in typical Cornerto-Corner fashion. Join with slip stitch unless otherwise stated.

COWL INCREASING

Row 1 (RS): Ch 6, dc in 4th ch from hook (3 sk chs count as ch sp here and throughout) and in next 2 chs; turn. (1 3-dc block)

Row 2: Ch 6, dc in 4th ch from hook and in next 2 chs, (sl st, ch 3, 3 dc) in ch-3 sp of previous row, turn. (2 3-dc blocks)

Row 3: Ch 6, dc in 4th ch from hook and in next 2 chs, (sl st, ch 3, 3 dc) in each ch-3 sp across, turn. (3 3-dc blocks) Rows 4–8: Rep Row 3, inc by 1 block each row. (8 3-dc blocks)

CENTER

Row 9: Sl st in each of first 3 dc, [(sl st, ch 3, 3 dc) in next ch-3 sp] across, turn.

Row 10: Ch 6, dc in 4th ch from hook and in each of next 2 chs, [(sl st, ch 3, 3 dc) in next ch-3 sp] 7 times, sl st in last ch sp, turn. Rows 11–40: Rep rows 9 and 10.

DECREASING

Rows 41–47: Sl st in each of first 3 dc [(sl st, ch 3, 3 dc) in next ch-3 sp] across to last ch sp, sl st in last ch sp, turn. (Dec by 1 block each row) At end of last row, fasten off, leaving long end to seam the ends tog.

FINISHING

Seam ends tog.

Edging

Rnd 1: Join (see Pattern Notes) yarn near seam, work 3 sc into each block around, join in first st.

Rnd 2: Reverse sc (see Stitch

Guide) in each sc around, join in first st, fasten off. Rep around opposite side of cowl.
