FINISHED MEASUREMEN­T 4 inches long MATERIALS • Lizbeth size 10 crochet cotton (122 yds per ball): 1 ball each #716 maple syrup, #638 Christmas green, #671 Christmas red, #629 azalea light and #610 cream • Size 6/1.80mm Clover Amour

steel crochet hook • Tapestry needle • Size 6/0 black seed beads: 2 • 5-inch-square piece of

brown felt • Sewing needle and black thread GAUGE Gauge is not important for this project. PATTERN NOTES Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated. SPECIAL STITCH Single crochet join (sc join): Place a slip knot on hook, insert hook in indicated st, yo and draw up a lp, yo and pull through both lps on hook. ORNAMENT GINGERBREA­D MAN Make 2.

Head

Rnd 1 (RS): With maple syrup, ch 2, work 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join (see Pattern Notes) to first sc. (8 sc)

Rnd 2: Ch 1, work 2 sc in each st around, join to first sc. (16 sc)

Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in first st, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, rep from * around, join to first sc. (24 sc)

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in first 2 sts, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st, rep from * around, join to first sc. (32 sc)

Rnd 5: Ch 1, sc in first 3 sts, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st, rep from * around, join to first sc. (40 sc)

Rnd 6: Ch 1, sc in first 4 sts, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st, rep from * around, join to first sc. (48 sc)

Rnd 7: Ch 1, sc in first 5 sts, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st, rep from * around, join to first sc. Fasten off. (56 sc)

Body

Row 1 (RS): With maple syrup, ch 8, with RS of head facing, sl st in any st, ch 1, sc in same st and in next 7 sts, ch 9, turn. (8 sc, 17 chs) Row 2: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in rem ch and sc across, turn. (24 sc) Rows 3–5: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. Fasten off at end of row 5. Row 6: With WS facing, sk first 6 sts, sc join (see Special Stitch) maple syrup in next st, sc in next 11 sts, ch 1, turn. (12 sc)

Rows 7–12: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. First Leg Row 13: Ch 1, sc in first 5 sts, leave rem sts unworked, turn. (5 sc) Rows 14–22: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.

Row 23: Ch 1, sc dec (see Stitch Guide) in first 2 sts, sc in next st, sc dec in last 2 sts, turn. (3 sc)

Row 24: Ch 1, sc dec in 3 sts. Fasten off. (1 sc)

2nd Leg Row 13: With RS facing, sk first 2 unworked sts on row 12, sc join maple syrup in next st, sc in each rem st across, turn. (5 sc)

Rows 14–24: Work rows 14–24 of first leg. At end of last row, do not fasten off.

Edging rnd: Ch 1, sc evenly around, join to first sc. Bow Tie

Row 1: With green, ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each rem ch across, turn. (3 sc)

Rows 2–9: Ch 1, sc in each st across, ch 1, turn. Leaving a long tail, fasten off at end of row 9. Wrap tail around row 5 to create a bow shape, secure and sew at base of neck. Cheek & Button Make 2 each pink & red. Ch 2, work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join to first sc. Fasten off. FINISHING Using photo as guide, sew beads with black thread in place for eyes. With red, embroider mouth with chain stitches (see illustrati­on). Sew pink cheeks to each end of mouth. Sew red buttons to belly. Trace outline of gingerbrea­d man on brown felt and cut out. Sandwich felt between 2 pieces. Working through both thicknesse­s, sc join cream in any st, sc evenly sp around, join to first sc. Fasten off. CW
