FINISHED MEASUREMEN­TS 81/2 inches wide x 93/8 inches tall MATERIALS • Aunt Lydia’s Classic Crochet Size 10 crochet cotton (350 yds per ball): 1 ball each #484 myrtle green, #492 burgundy, #422 golden yellow and #131 fudge brown • Size 7/1.65mm steel crochet hook

or size needed to obtain gauge • Tapestry needle • 1/2 yd striped fabric • Sewing thread to match fabric

and motifs • Sewing needle or machine • 14-inch-square pillow form GAUGE Motif = 11/2 inches wide Refer to Assembly Diagram, working from left to right as motifs are added. Tree is made of 15 motifs, beginning with 5 motifs in

(bottom) row 1, 4 motifs in row 2, and working upwards to 1 motif at the top. Base and star are worked into tree motifs. Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated. Chain-5 at beginning of round counts as first double crochet and chain-2 unless otherwise stated. Chain-3 at beginning of round counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated.

Beginning shell (beg shell): ( Ch 3— see Pattern Notes, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in indicated sp.

Shell: (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in indicated sp.

Shell join: (3 dc, ch 1, sl st in correspond­ing ch-3 sp of shell in indicated motif, ch 1, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp or ring of current motif. Hold motifs with WS tog as sl st is worked.

Motif 1 With green, ch 8, join (see Pattern Notes) in first ch to form a ring. Rnd 1: Ch 5 (see Pattern Notes), dc in ring. [Ch 2, dc in ring] 10 times. Ch 2, join in 3rd ch of beg ch-5. (12 ch-2 sps)

Join in top of beg ch-3. Fasten off. (6 shells, 6 sc) Motif 2 Make 4. Rnd 1: Rep rnd 1 of Motif 1. Rnd 2: Sl st in first ch-2 sp. Beg shell in same ch-2 sp, sc in next ch-2 sp. Ornaments Make 10 between joins of Motifs & 10 in sc between shells of Motifs of rows 2–5. With burgundy and leaving a 2-inch tail, make a slip ring

(see illustrati­on), ch 2, 9 hdc in ring. Pull tail to close ring. Join in top of beg ch-2. Ch 1, sl st around join between Motifs or in sc between shells of Motif (see

photo for placement). Fasten off.

ASSEMBLY & FINISHING

Optional: Trim ends after blocking to prevent short tails from unraveling. Block Christmas tree. Pillow Cover Cut 2 pieces of fabric, each 15 inches square. Center Christmas tree on RS of front piece and invisibly tack in place with sewing thread. With 1/2- inch seam allowance and RS held tog, sew front and back pieces tog, leaving 6-inch opening on 1 edge. Turn cover RS out and insert pillow form. Sew opening closed. CW
