Scandinavian Star Pillow

PATTERN NOTES Pillow consists of 2 squares

(Front and Back Panels) worked separately in rounds, then stitched together with reverse single crochet. Front Panel is worked from Chart and written instructions in 2 contrasting colors with tapestry crochet technique; Back Panel is worked in standard double crochet stitching in a single color. Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated. Chain-3 at beginning of round counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated. In tapestry crochet, carry and work over color not in use on wrong side of Front Panel until next needed. Do not cut or fasten off unless otherwise stated. SPECIAL STITCH Single crochet join (sc join): Place a slip knot on hook, insert hook in indicated st, yo and pull up a lp, yo and draw through both lps on hook. PILLOW FRONT PANEL With red, ch 4, join (see Pattern

Notes) in 4th ch from hook to form a ring. Rnd 1: Ch 3 (see Pattern Notes), dc in ring, [ch 2, 3 dc in ring] 3 times, ch 2, dc in ring, change color (see Stitch Guide and Pattern Notes) to off-white. Join in top of beg ch-3. (12 dc, 4 ch-2 sps) Rnd 2: Ch 3, *change color to red, dc in next dc, (2 dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch-2 sp, dc in next dc, change color to off-white**, dc in next dc, rep from * 4 times, ending last rep at **. Join in top of beg ch-3. (28 dc, 4 ch-2 sps)

Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in next dc, *change color to red, dc in each dc around to next ch-2 sp, (2 dc, ch 2, dc) in next ch-2 sp, dc in next 2 dc, change color to off-white**, dc in next 3 dc, rep from * around, ending last rep at **, dc in last dc. Join in top of beg ch-3. Rnds 4–13: Referring to Chart (see Pattern Notes and chart on page 63), ch 3, dc in each dc around, working (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc)

FINISHING

Block Panels to finished measurement.

Hold Panels with WS tog. Working through both thicknesses, sc join (see Special Stitch) red in any st, reverse sc (see Stitch

Guide) around 3 sides of pillow, working 3 sc in each ch-2 sp. Insert stuffing to desired fullness, reverse sc in rem sts, and join in beg sc. Fasten off. CW
