Single crochet join (sc join):

Place slip knot on hook, insert hook in indicated st, yo and draw up a lp, yo and draw through both lps on hook.

3 dc as indicated in instructions, drop lp from hook, insert hook from front to back in first dc of 3-dc group, pick up dropped lp, draw through st.
