PATTERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work progresses.

First, a crocheted cord is made and then woven into Celtic knot. Then a simple crochet edging is added to each of the 5 outside loops of the knot. Lastly, jump rings, beads and tassel are joined with the knot and hung on cord. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.

NECKLACE CORD

Row 1 (RS): Ch 99, working in back bar of ch (see illustra

tion), sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each rem ch across, leaving a long length, fasten off.

WEAVE KNOT

With RS facing, using Cord and referring to Diagram, weave Knot as follows:

1. Place photocopy of diagram on

top of foam block.

2. Pin beg end of cord to foam

block at * on diagram.

3. Bend cord following path and arrows of knot, using pins to keep proper shape.

4. Pass cord correctly either over

or under at each crossing. 5. Adjust knot so that each of 5

outside lps have 9 sc.

6. Pin each cross section to

secure weave.

7. Carefully remove knot from

foam block and flip over to WS. 8. Using embroidery needle and matching thread, secure all crossings on back of pendant, making sure that stitching does not show on RS.

9. Secure and hide cord end under cord section that passes over it.

EDGING

Join (see Pattern Notes) in back lp of first sc in an outside lp of knot (see A in diagram), working in back lp of each sc around, sc in next sc, 2 hdc in next sc,

2 dc in next sc, tr in next sc,

2 dc in next sc, 2 hdc in next sc, sc in next sc, sl st in last sc of this knot lp, [sl st in first sc in next lp, sc in next sc, 2 hdc in next sc, 2 dc in next sc, tr in next sc, 2 dc in next sc, 2 hdc in next sc, sc in next sc, sl st in last sc of knot lp] around, join in first sl st. Fasten off.

STIFFEN PENDANT

Place pendant with RS facing down on square of wax paper. With small amount of white glue and paintbrush, coat only WS of pendant. Let dry and coat with white glue 1 more time. Let dry overnight.

FINISHING

Using photo as a guide throughout, attach jump ring to top of knot and thread cord through. With sewing thread and needle join beads and tassel below knot as follows:

Pass thread through items in this order: first spacer bead, turquoise bead, 2nd spacer bead and tassel.

Then pass thread back through 2nd spacer bead, turquoise bead, and first spacer bead.

Secure ends of thread to bottom center of knot on WS.
