Chain-3 at beginning of row counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated. Chain-6 at beginning of row counts as first double crochet and chain-3 unless otherwise stated.

Chain-4 at beginning of row counts as first double crochet and chain-1 unless otherwise stated.

Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.

Begin as multiple of 8 chs, plus 4. Pattern is reversible. Right side and wrong side rows alternate with each vertical repeat. Worked up in Clean Cotton—a 100 percent recycled yarn— you’ll love having this decor piece in your space.

Rug is worked flat. Single crochet edging in contrastin­g color is added after working main lace portion; then add tassels. SPECIAL STITCH Shell: (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in indicated dc.

RUG Row 1: With beach resort, ch 44, dc in 6th ch from hook (counts as dc, ch-1), *ch 1, sk next ch, dc in next ch, rep from * across, turn. (21 dc, 20 ch-1 sps) Row 2: Ch 3 (see Pattern Notes), *sk next 2 ch-1 sps, shell (see Special Stitch) in next dc, sk next 2 ch-1 sps, dc in next dc, rep from * across, ending with dc in top of turning ch, turn. (5 shells, 6 dc) Row 3: Ch 6 (see Pattern Notes), *sk next 3 dc of shell, sc in next ch-2 sp of shell, ch 3, sk next

Rows 7–26: Rep rows 2–6 for pattern. FINISHING

Gently wash and block to finished measuremen­ts. EDGING Rnd 1: Join (see Pattern Notes) tropics in any corner to work across length of Rug, ch 1, *3 sc in corner, work 50 sc across length of Rug edge, 3 sc in corner, 37 sc across width of Rug edge, rep from * once, join. (186 sc)

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, join in beg sc. Fasten off.

TASSELS

Wrap tropics 8 times around cardboard. Cut yarn at 1 end of cardboard. Cut 2 pieces of yarn each 8 inches long. Pass first piece under strands at top of tassel, knot to secure strands. Remove cardboard. Wrap the other 8-inch piece around tassel approximat­ely 1/2 inch from top end several times. Hide ends of this piece inside tassel. Sew 7 tassels to each short edge of Rug, taking care to space them evenly. Trim each tassel to 31/4 inches. CW
