Summer Fun Pennant

EASY FINISHED MEASUREMEN­TS Pennant: 7 inches wide x 71/4 inches long Garland: 60 inches long MATERIALS

• Medium (worsted) weight acrylic yarn:

26 yds each light yellow, light green, aqua, light blue and navy blue

14 yds tan

7 yds orange

6 yds each magenta and white 5 yds bright pink

4 yds each red and yellow

3 yds green

2 yds each pale pink, dark blue,

brown and black

• Size H/8/5mm crochet hook or

size needed to obtain gauge • Tapestry needle

• 1/4-inch-wide red rickrack: 62

inches

• Sewing needle and red thread • 11/8-inch-diameter plastic rings: 2 GAUGE 13 dc = 4 inches; 8 dc rows = 41/4 inches

PATTERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work progresses.

Chain-3 at beginning of row counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated.

Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated. SPECIAL STITCHES Single crochet 3 together (sc3tog): [Insert hook in next st, yo and pull up a lp] 3 times, yo, draw through all 4 lps on hook. Single crochet 2 together (sc2tog): [Insert hook in next st, yo and pull up a lp] twice, yo, draw through all 3 lps on hook. Single crochet join (sc join):

Place a slip knot on hook, insert hook in indicated st, yo and pull up a lp, yo and draw through both lps on hook.

Picot: Ch 2, sl st in tr just made. SPECIAL TECHNIQUE

Slip ring: Leaving 4-inch end, lap yarn over 4-inch tail, forming lp (see illustrati­on), insert hook through lp from front to back, yo, pull through lp to form ring, yo, pull through lp on hook.

PENNANT GARLAND PENNANT Make 1 each light yellow, light green, aqua, light blue & navy blue.

Row 1 (WS): Ch 4, 2 dc in 4th ch from hook (beg 3 sk chs count as first dc), turn. (3 dc)

Row 2 (RS): Ch 3 (see Pattern Notes), dc in same st as beg ch-3, dc in next dc, 2 dc in last dc, turn. (5 dc)

Row 3: Ch 3, dc in same st as beg ch-3, dc in each dc across to last st, 2 dc in last st, turn. (7 dc)

Rows 4–11: Rep row 3. (23 dc)

Row 12: Ch 3, dc in each st across, turn.

Row 13: Ch 3, dc in next dc,

[ch 1, sk next dc, dc in next dc] 10 times, dc in last dc, turn. (13 dc, 10 ch-1 sps) Row 14: Ch 1, sc in each st and sp across, fasten off. (23 sc)

Ice Cream Cone Cone Row 1 (RS): With tan, ch 4, 2 dc in 4th ch from hook (beg 3 sk chs count as first dc), turn. (3 dc) Row 2: Ch 1, sc in back lp (see Stitch Guide) of each st across, turn.

Row 3: Ch 3, dc in same st as beg ch-3, dc in back lp of next st, 2 dc in last st, turn. (5 dc)

Row 4: Rep row 2.

Row 5: Ch 3, dc in same st as beg ch-3, dc in back lp of each st across, 2 dc in last st, turn. (7 dc)

Row 6: Rep row 2, change color (see Stitch Guide) to brown in last st, turn.
