Sailors looking for new ideas will not be disappointed by the 51 new models bound for the coming year’s boat shows.

Sprits are in for 2019. So are self-tacking jibs, wet bars and barbecues on the stern, chaise lounges in the cockpit and ports in the hull, designed to let light pour into interior cabins, perhaps forever upturning the notion of “going down below.”

After looking through the 51 new models that are either here in the States already or soon to arrive, one thing is clear: Sailors have lots of choices when it comes to how they’ll spend time on the water. Want to buy American? There are six new sailboats being launched by U.S. builders. Crazy for cats? You’ll have 17 to choose from, including a foiling weekender that comes with seat belts for the crew.

Maybe size is a consideration. Those looking to get started with a manageable 30-something-footer have seven fresh designs to ponder, both foreign and domestic. Or perhaps you’re ready to jump into it big-time? Have a look at the 22 50-plus-footers being introduced. Most come with all the comforts of home. Literally.
