After abandoning their plans to cruise the South Pacific this year due to the spread of COVID-19, the Totem crew has been living at anchor near the town of Loreto, on Mexico’s Baja peninsula. As restrictions have eased a little in the area, one aspect of life aboard dramatically improved: mealtime. “As weeks wore on, we connected with more direct suppliers in the area we’re sequestered in, beautiful Loreto Bay national marine park,” writes Behan Gifford in a recent blog post. “Instead of reduced options, our access to fresh food is better than ever.” Thanks to community-supported agriculture, “aside from eating well, we have the great feeling that comes from being able to help someone else. Everyone we are working with has changed their mode of business in order to find new income amid the shortfalls directly resulting from COVID restrictions.
