Coffee talks

The next installment of the city’s monthly Coffee Talks Series is set for Feb. 14, 8:30 -9:30 a.m. at Hobee’s, 21267 Stevens Creek Blvd., when city manager Deb Feng and a city council representative will be on hand to listen to residents’ questions, complaints and suggestions.

Since last October, more than 100 residents have attended the Coffee Talks across Cupertino.

The last event will happen March 13, 8:30-9:30 a.m., at Philz @ Main Street Cupertino, 19439 Stevens Creek Blvd. All attendees will walk away with a reusable mug.

NASA Speaker Series

Wendy A. Okolo, an aerospace research engineer at NASA Ames Research Center, will speak Feb. 19 as part of Cupertino’s NASA Speaker series. Okolo will present her efforts on the “pterodactyl” project to develop control techniques for maneuvering and precision landing of Deployable Entry Vehicles, or DEVS.

State-of-the-art entry spacecraft such as the Apollo capsule utilize Reaction Control System (RCS) thrusters for steering. These thrusters are typically mounted on the backshells of the spacecraft to maneuver them during atmospheric entry. DEVS, a new class of entry spacecraft, have no backshell, so mounting

RCS thrusters is a challenge.

Okolo’s talk runs 4-6 p.m. at Community Hall, 10350 Torre Ave.

Community shuttle survey

The city is seeking feedback on Via-cupertino, its on-demand shuttle service launched in October. To that end, shuttle users are being asked to take a survey on their experiences with the service. The survey is at www.opentownhall.com/8213.
