Sunnyvale man arrested on suspicion of burglary, selling stolen property
SAN JOSE >> A Sunnyvale man was arrested last week on charges of multiple burglaries, thefts, and weapons violations, according to authorities.
San Jose police received a tip from Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers about a person selling stolen property on an online marketplace, according to a news release. Detectives confirmed that the property was stolen in an auto burglary in San Jose. The seller was identified as a 24-year-old man, who is on probation for auto theft and credit card fraud in Santa Clara County.
Police also linked the man to two storage facilities, where he was suspected of warehousing stolen merchandise, authorities said. Detectives served search warrants at both locations on April 20.
Authorities found highend medical equipment worth more than $1.5 million, stolen from San Jose; two go-karts worth nearly $50,000 believed to be taking during a burglary in San Mateo County; stolen electronics; sets of golf clubs stolen from vehicle burglaries throughout the Bay Area; and music equipment stolen during a burglary in San Jose. Police also discovered an assault rifle missing a serial number, also known as a ghost gun, along with six ghost pistols and a handgun stolen during a vehicle burglary in Morgan Hill.
The man was arrested April 28 on suspicion of grand theft, burglary, sale of stolen property and illegal weapons possession. Upon his arrest, police found more evidence in his car, including items that were taken during another burglary and another ghost gun concealed in a hidden compartment in the car. His bail was set at $1 million.
Detectives were working to return property to their owners and to identify any other related cases.
