Drive sober or get pulled over

-

CUSTER COUNTY This time of year, with all the holiday parties and festive occasions, many individuals will be drinking. If you’re celebrating with alcohol this holiday season, Custer County Sheriff ’s Office has a message for you: Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.

Due to the increase in drunk driving-related fatalities around the holidays each year, law enforcement agencies across Nebraska will be out in force actively looking for impaired drivers.

The only way to truly avoid a DUI is to drive sober.

There are many ways to get home safely, and driving isn’t one of them. Designate a sober driver ahead of time, or call a friend or family member.

Custer County Sheriff’s Office will be aggressively working during the holidays and will show zero tolerance for impaired drivers on the roadway.

The 20-day, high visibility campaign, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, is a partnership with the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety to curb impaired driving and save lives. Dec. 13, 2019 thru Jan. 1, 2020, law enforcement partners statewide will show zero tolerance for drunk driving. Increased national and state messaging about the dangers of driving drunk, coupled with increased officers on the road, aim to drastically reduce the toll of drunk driving.

In every state, it’s illegal to drive with a BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) of 0.08 or higher. Custer County Sheriff Dan Osmond wants to remind Custer County drivers that it’s not a recommendation; it’s the law.

During the enforcement period starting Dec. 13, there will be a special emphasis on drunk driving enforcement. Local drivers should expect to see more patrol vehicles and increased messaging about the reckless preventable crime. The number of people who are still drinking and driving is unacceptable.

Sheriff Osmond emphasized the preventable nature of drunk driving. “All it takes is a little planning ahead. Designate a sober driver, call a friend or family member. But whatever you do, don’t drink and drive.”

This December and year-round, remember that there’s no excuse for drunk driving. Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.
