Indians squeak by Ord at Broken Bow Invite
The Indians hosted the Broken Bow Wrestling Invite Dec. 7. There were 13 teams in all represented.
Broken Bow ended up winning the championship with 202 points followed by Ord with 193 points. St. Paul finished 3rd with 116 points followed by Gordon-Rushville in 4th with 96 points, Malcolm in 5th with 91.5 points, Twin River in 6th with 90 points, Mitchell in 7th with 81 points, Kearney Catholic in 8th with 76 points, South Loup in 9th with 48 points, Southern Valley in 10th with 45 points, Chase County in 11th with 33 points, GICC in 12th with 32 points and Perkins County in 13th with 17 points.
Broken Bow had 5 wrestlers win their weight class on the day. They were Trey Garey at 120, Schylar Campbell at 126, Patrick Powers at 132, Lathan Duda at 182 and Keifer Anderson at 220.
Not only did Lathan Duda win his weight class at 182 but his win by Dec. 8-1 over Trevor Peterson of Chase County in the championship match gave Lathan his 100th career win.
Broken Bow Head coach Ed Schaaf stated that Saturday was a great tournament. They knew going in that Ord was going to be tough. Coach Schaaf looked up after ther semifinals and thought Broken Bow had the tournament in the bag. However, Ord had a great finals round and came back to make it close.
Broken Bow had five guys win championships Saturday. Obviously their goal is to win but they wrestled very well in the process of winning. They will look to get better and move forward.
Coach Schaaf stated that Lathan Duda got his 100th win on Saturday. That is a nice milestone but Lathan is a very good wrestler that has put a lot of time and effort into his wrestling. This is just another step along his wrestling journey.
